2.8 i6 to 86 hilux?

Has anyone ever swapped a Cressida motor to a 86 toyota hilux? I have a 1986 hilux with a blown motor. I found the cressida at a fair price and was curious if anyone had done or attempted the swap? If so were there any problems with fit or bolting up? TIA

I did a 7m in my 85. I didn't have much trouble. I think the 5m would be a little easier because the crank pulley isn't quite as long and the 5m hard mounts should make it so the frame mounts are in the correct position. Just research any clearance issues you may have clearing the diff with the sump.

I put a 5m-ge in my 86 pickup a few years back, it worked really good. My truck was a 22re so, using the stock crossmember in the stock location, I used the 5 m motor mounts, but I had to fab new frame brackets and massage the rad support to get the 5m rad recessed so it would clear the mechanical fan. If you want to make the swap easier find an 84-85 supra 5m manual and get the ECU, the engine harness, bell housing (bolts right up to a W56), flywheel & bolts (generally flex plate bolts are not as long), clutch and the fuel pump and bracket. Where your truck is a 22r I'd also try and find an 86 that was a 22re and get the fuel tank and harnesses, as your tank is not made for an internal fuel pump or return lines, and your wiring harnesses are probably missing a lot of what you need for fuel injection. You will have to build fuel lines (return), the clutch cylinder is on the opposite side from your truck and so is the exhaust.
