Suspension And Body Lift Quotes. Is This A Rip-off Or Typical Prices?

I was just quoted $700 for a 4x4 shop in my area (North Dallas/Fort Worth) to install my Rough Country 4-5 inch suspension lift. I was quoted $350 additional to install my 3 inch body lift. Both suspension and body lift will be done at the same appointment, and the shop said that there is no reduction in the labor price by both being done together as there is no labor time saved by doing them at the same appointment.

So a $1050 quote to install a 4-5 inch Rough Country suspension lift, and a 3 inch body lift onto a 1990 4x4 Toyota pickup extended cab, auto trans. I have already bought the suspension lift, the body lift, and the shifter extension bracket etc, so all they will be doing is the installation. Is this typical, or are these quotes a rip-off? Thanks.

Sounds legit to me.

Buy some tools and man up. Or take out your wallet.

Yea, just wondering if the price was good or not. I dont have time nor patience any more to work on vehicles and would rather pay to have it done. BUT, I dont want to get ripped off, hence the reason I asked. Thanks.

Around here in WV that's a little on the steep side. But hey if that includes the alignment and a warranty then there ya go. Depending on rust and such it may be worth the garage doing it. They would have more tools needed to get out rusted seized bolts and such

Great points you mention there Toyota~Boy, I appreciate the input. I'll have to find out from the shop if the quotes do include an alignment being that it wasnt mentioned. Thanks.

(Post edit to clear up some typos)

Post up on the TX TTORA board. I'm sure you'll find a couple guys that would charge half of that (or even less) to come to your place and do the install.

That's a little on the steep side in my opinion. But, I'm cheap and I don't like anyone else but me working on my rig (friends don't count).

A price like that means one of 2 things Shop is busy is jobs get quoted a little higher.

Or They really don`t want to do the job but stupid to turn work away.

Some of us have been doing this long enough to get picky .

Like the others I think it is a little high.

Do you know what their hourly shop rate is??

Ours right now is $90.00 /hr

THANKS scuba, great idea. Thats an option I would be completely willing to go for. I would actually prefer to pay a skilled toyota enthusiast to do it for me on the side rather than a shop do it as I would imagine the Toyota enthusiast would take much more pride in the job plus the added benefit of being less expensive. I will surely take a look at the TX TTORA board. Thanks again.

When it is completed I would be happy to post some pics. Yea, from what I imagine, San Diego is much higher with prices on everything compared to North DFW. Well... maybe everything is cheaper in North DFW EXCEPT lift installs apparently lol. Thanks.

Not sure what the Labor rate is at this 4x4 shop, but they told me it will take them 3 days to do the job. Thats a lot longer than I assumed it would take, especially since I have seen folks post on Toyota forums online where they completed such installs in their driveway in less than a weekend while even taking their time without fancy tools. .

Been there done that I did mine in the driveway 2 winters ago at night after work. Just had lamps to guide the way. No air compressor use at night.

Nice. You are more competent than the professional 4x4 shop in my area. Too bad you didnt live in North DFW as I would pay you to do mine.

Sounds freakin expensive, but i've never paid any one to work on my rig. I work in a repair shop, so I'm assuming that 4x4 shop is going by "by the book" labor rates. I know it can suck, but 80-100 dollars an hour is the rate most shops charge. Maybe the 4x4 industry is more

3 days for that kind of money is down right crazy!!

For money like that I would think one day.

Then maybe it is one of those shops with one person that does every thing and is pulled away from wrenching to answer questions about the best brand of headlight fluid.

Have you thought about one of the independent garages in your area .

Most likely a better price sometimes things are slow this time of year people buying (Winter Holiday ) Gifts.

A Body lift and lift kit install is pretty basic just wrenching.

Is it bolt on?

Idk how mechanically inclined you are but maybe spend some money on tool and have it be a weekend project with your buddies and use the remaining fund on other stuff.
