(Newbie) 87 22r HG leak or water pump ?

Hey everyone used this site plenty just reading thru forums. Now time to post my own. Got a 87 pickup 22r with a coolant leak on driver side of block just under head. I know sounds like HG but problem being as far as I can see towards front of engine is wet, (but not dripping) so I was wondering if its possible its coming from water pump?

I know I can find out by removing power steering and distributer but I'm do for a timing chain guide anyways so if I start diggin into this ima do some work on it while I'm in it.

It has 212k on it and this is the 1st real problem I've had. No water in oil and leak is real slow. Never had problem with over heating infact temp never even gets to half.

Is it even worth it for me to rebuild it myself? From the research I've found it's about the same to rebuild, buy a rebuilt, or have it rebuilt
Thanx for any help

It could be a strong possibility it could be the HG, but the pipe that comes off the timing cover towards the firewall inside the cabin could of busted a leak, and i would doubt its a water pump since it located on the front of the engine. Worst case scenario you have a cracked head and/or block.

I can see its wet at the HG as far as I can see towards the front of engine. I was wondering if water pump could be leaking back down engine. I doubt it's cracked head or block since its barely leaking and only place I see moister is at HG .

best way to figure this out....buy a coolant pressure tester or take it to a shop and have them pressureize it and look for a leak. most shops charge $40 for a pressure test.

Already did a pressure test. It only leaks after I drive it. Can't see any while under pressure
