help with a 96 2.7L tacoma

hey guys thought i would try here and see if i can get any ideas on what to try next. I have a 96 2.7L tacoma that while driving died while going down the road. I pulled it back and seen i wasnt getting any spark. I replaced all the plugs, plug wires and the ignitor i got a used one from a pull apart. I also put a new distributor in it with a new cap and rotar. I then seen i was getting spark but still turning over but not starting, so i check the circuit open relay and its working and the pump is spitting out fuel when i try and crank it but no start. I then tried to spray gas in through the breather into the carb with no luck of starting either. Kinda of stuck here and not sure where to look next? Thanks in advance for the help

What motor do you have? I've never heard of a carbed 2.7L in 96.

Does it act like its trying to start at all or just crank and crank and crank?

it just keeps cranking, almost like it is not getting any fuel. It never sputters like it tried to start at all.

Did you put the distributor in exactly as the old one came out? ie did you mark the rotor and the case? If you didn't your way outta time and you'll have to set @TDC on #1 and put the dist on #1 cylinder. That'll be close enough to get it started.

Just remember there are two TDC or the crankshaft hits 0 deg twice in a cycle. Best thing to do is pull the #1 spark plug and cut a coat hanger to just the straight part. Stick the coat hanger down in the plug hole. When your coat hanger goes to the top as you come to the 0deg timing mark then your on the correct one. Then center the rotor on the #1 wire terminal. Like I said that should get it started and allow you to time it from there. you'll need a timing light and you may have to jump the diag connectors, I know you did on the 22re.
Oh and don't forget to pull out the coat hanger and reinstall the plug w/wire b4 starting it.--just in case statement
