Need help w/ dashboard airbag cover removal

I have done some searching but cannot find the answer. Is it possible to remove the dashboard airbag cover in a 3rd Gen 4Runner in order to swap with a new, clean cover without damaging or tampering with the actual airbag? If so does anyone have instruction? I would like to find a clean cover from a junkyard or elsewhere and swap it out with the damaged cover on my dash. I am hoping it can be achieved without total dash and airbag removal. Thank you.

It's sold as a single unit, there's probably a way to remove it but maybe not that pad splits in the middle when the airbag deploys

I've wanted to know the same for at least 10 years - after a some lumber I had in the truck made a small cut in the cover.

I know I've had the bottom portion loose but couldn't figure out how to get the top released without breaking so I quit before causing some wallet damage $$. Seemed like it just had a couple more tabs and it would come off separately from the dash and air bag but I can't say for sure.

That whole pad comes off they are sometimes a pia. Should be a few screws around and then it's just clips under the pads. Easiest way to see is to find a pad that's already taken out

you'll need to access the clips/tabs from behind to remove the cover.

Thus, only getting behind by removing the dash entirely?

as a minimum you'll need to remove the upper cover of the glovebox compartment. the upper cover is held by a few screws.
