97 rear suspension recall US only ?

I contacted Toyota about the rear suspension recall on 97s.They said there was no recall in Canada .Is this recall US only ?

I thought both Canadian and US models were the same .

The recall number is SSC-20A.

To be eligible for the recall your rig has to have a VIN number between certain ranges. Some digits in the VIN represent where it was made. The Safety Commission is probably completely different there and they are usually who initiate recalls, so you might be out of luck. Are your rear springs sagging? If not, don't even worry about the recall.

Yup there was a recall. Mybrother and I were both contacted by the dealer to have it done. It included the reart springs and cone.

Call them again or find another dealer that will do it.

Did they actually replace the springs or just the conical bump stops?

I forgot about the bump stops too!

Do a search about the parts needed. I think Jason B had a diagram about the parts needed to be replaced.

rear springs, cones and bump stopa

Did your 4runner come with 15" wheels? If so then your runner did not qualify for the TSB.

Nope, mine are 16" so it sounds like I do qualify.

Are the new springs the same as in the 99+ trucks or are they just another set of 96-98 springs?
