I have a hose that’s leaking coolant to the left of the brake fluid reservoir. It has a weird type of hose clamp on it (looks like it has a cotter pin through it?) I want to remove the clamp, slide the hose off the nipple, cut off the corroded part of the hose, reattach, and install the hose clamp again.
I’m not sure what those hose is for, I’m not sure if there’s a reason why there’s a special type of hose clamp on it, and I’m not sure if it’s going to start pissing once I pull it off. I took the rad cap off, and squeezed the hose and could see the fluid level rise, so I’m assuming it’ll be messy.
Figured I’d ask before I cause more problems for myself..

If you have a broken hose you replace it.

I would replace it but it disappears behind my engine, so thought I’d just cut 1/2” off and reattach it.. the clamp is an odd one though, not sure how it even works yet.
I understand what you mean about those clamps. I'm not sure either...those clamps seem to be sort of intended to be permanent. I would cut it off with a dremel and put a screw type hose clamp in it's place after you shorten the hose.
These are the hoses to your heater valve/heater core.
Yeah, I grabbed a regular screw type hose clamp to replace it. It just tripped me up when I saw those weird hose clamps on there and thought I’d better ask.. might try and reuse it if I can. It’s a lot narrower than the regular screw hose clamps, so that may be an indication why that style of clamp is there? Might not be a lot for it to grab onto.
Its the heater hoses. The clamp is digging into it like that, its because the hoes has started swelling. Cutting it short is just a temporary fix. To do it right, you should replace it. The clamp is a one time uses. You gotta cut it off. I've been able to pull the pin before but they are a pain and don't really free up that much.
You can cut the heater hose back a little to get past the failed part of the hose, but it is a temporary fix and the hose should be replaced when you have time.
Those cotter pin type hose clamps are genuine Toyota clamps from the factory. I am not sure why they used that style over the "spring" type hose clamp that they used elsewhere.
It is just fine to cut off the old hose clamp and replace it with either a spring clamp or screw clamp.
