Hydrolock heartbreak

My son borrows my 85 4runner with recently rebuilt 22r (5268mi) late last weekend and on his way home at highway speeds 65mph, the coolant hose attached to the underside of the intake either ruptured or blew off. Copious amounts of of coolant was sucked into the Weber carb effectively stalling the motor. He phones his friend who pulls it home. I am sleeping because I'm old and it's midnight Saturday morning. So he takes advice from the same friend. And sprayed carb cleaner in the carb and tried to start it , over, and over again. Needless to say that did a bunch of damage to the head components and more. My question is with so few miles on this completely rebuilt 22r and no scars on the cylinder wall or piston, would it be a bad idea to replace only the rings? The head is irrelevant it's going to be completely gone through. Just need some knowledgeable advice .

Con rods should be carefully checked for straightness

Pistons are not expensive. Replace them.

Mike cylinder bores each several places. Possible for hydro-lock to balloon them some.

I was definitely leaning toward replacing them but the cheap bastard in me wouldn't stop whining, so I appreciate the nudge in the right direction. Got a set of H beam rods and pistons on the way and the bore checked out fine. Of course it has to be this week mother nature decided to dump a foot snow out here.
