so I recently ran accross a killer deal on 2002 tundra rear axle with LSD. my question is for all you axle guys is, can I swap the ring gear from the old 3rd member onto the new to me differential carrier without any major problems? the old gearing is 4.30 the new to me is 3.91. both have 43 tooth ring gears (the open dif has a 10 tooth pinion, the LSD has an 11 tooth pinion) and I tried just swapping over the carrier but I have horrendous howling now and am about to swap back in the open dif. also is there anyone in the Denver region good with setting up thirds that is willing to help out (beer, pizza and $$ are acceptable forms of compensation for your time to me)

See this page for info::: http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/#T100-Tundra
You certainly cannot just change a ring gear without changing its pinion too. They are matched sets. Especially after being used.

yep, read the eriks page multiple times in the past, both diffs are "8.4". I'm gonna pull the 3rd and swap the ring gears over onto the tundra LSD and hope between the 2 I have enough parts for backlash adjustment

Have you read www.gearinstalls.com?
Before you go swapping the ring gears, why don't you check the backlash and try to get a pattern check on the LSD?
