Grills

Or grilles....no matter, what year did they change from 2 vertical bars to one single down the middle?
I have an 1988 and it looks like it came from the factory with one.
But, I have a complete faux chrome one with the two bars that would look pretty sweet. I noticed the Toyota script on front is smaller on the "2 bar" version.
Thanks

The change in grilles (and some interior pieces like dash pads) changed between the 1986 and 1987 model years.

1984-1986 Trucks and 4Runners had the "two vertical bars" in the grille.

1987-1988 Trucks and 1987-1989 4Runners had the "single vertical bar" in the grille.

The "TOYOTA" name badge is different between the two grille styles in size, form, and how they attach to the grille.

The name badge is not interchangeable without some creativity, but the whole grille itself should be interchangeable between both styles.

Two wheel drive truck grilles changed at the same time period as well.

Thanks Jake!
I bought a bunch of stuff while waiting on my motor and being new to the Toyota world didn't really pay attention till I pulled all my parts out today.
I kinda like the older style with the 2 bars and smaller emblem, I think I will run that for awhile.

I want to place a 2nd gen front on my 86. Will it fit easy? Headlights line up? Anyone have a build link?

Good questions, I would think if I can backdate a grill, that going the other way should work too
I put the early grill on my truck last night,it fits, all the mounting holes line up , and the headlight are fine.
I would think the after about 1990 you could probably do it, but it would be a lot of work, maybe someone with more knowledge might chime in.
good luck, keep us posted on how it comes along.
