Suggestions With buying new cam for 22R

Aloha! I am new to this site and I need some help picking out a new cam for my 22r. But first i should give you a little background on my truck/motor, I have a 1980 first gen. 4x4 that is basically for show, it will never be taken off road , I build it for show but I do drive it around a few times a month, i
stuck a rebuilt 22r motor in it when I restored it , motor is all stock but has header and 32/36 Weber carb on it now with electric fuel pump and it runs perfect as is but here is my dilemma I have been thinking of switching it over to duel 45 sidedrafts carbs , I talked briefly to a friend of mine that is a certified mechanic and own a mechanic shop And the only thing he said was ya got to change the cam! At first I thought ok forget it but after a day I’m looking around st cams
and they are not that expensive, so my question is does anyone know what size cam I should buy???? Keeping in mind it’s only driven on the road ( normal driving conditions) any info will be greatly appreciated .... mahalo! 🤙

On an essentially stock truck (like what you described) the 32/36 is just slightly too much carb but it can be tuned to run well - but not necessarily "great". A 38/38 is definitely too much carb for stock street usage on a 22R. A pair of 40 DCOEs would be 2x (plus a bit) way too much carb and probably impossible to to get to run well (if at all). I'll let you figure out what a pair of 45s would be.

Adding a cam wont fix that. A pair of 45s are meant to fill a bigger volume that the 22R has. Perhaps if you build a Formula Atlantic motor then the 45s would be well suited for that motor. But a FA motor isn't really appropriate for daily street driving.

You take that back Ricky Bobby. A FA motor will do great as a daily driver. Just change your driving style...

And get a good traffic lawyer.

Yeah a good traffic lawyer, bail bonds man and a judge needing cash.
