88 4runner manual hub swap help

hello yotatechers, have yet to find a solid answer to my current issue, i have an 88 v6 runner that has some bad gear oil leaks torn cv's, and auto hubs, i also have an 89 v6 parts runner that i intend to swap the manual aisin hubs, cv's, and front diff from. what i don't know is if there is a way to swap everything without a conversion kit, since i am already planning on taking the diff cv's and hubs can everything be interchanged without the kit. i will also have to put the auto hubs back on the 89 parts rig so that it can roll, are the hub bodies the same and what problems will i encounter swapping one with another, thanks in advance as i am in somewhat of a pinch

Have you got actual auto hubs, or have you got ADD??? (automatic differential disconnect)

You should just be able to swap everything out complete, and be done. No additional parts or 'kit' necessary. This is provided that the old and the new diffs have the same gear ratios installed in them, of course.

so if the front end 4x4 parts can be interchanged no problem then what makes the auto hubs need the conversion kit for manual

I think you confuse 1st and 2nd gen IFS Runners with later models that DO require different parts to be converted to manual hubs

These early trucks you have should be perfectly interchangable.

My '87 runner was equipped with Aisin automatic hubs from the factory, and the previous owner installed a set of Warn manual hubs on it. A set of first or 2nd gen Aisin IFS hubs would have fit just as easily.

Red face

The Automatic Hubs only Had one Nut Holding them on .

Without the added Lock nut on the Manual Hubs Things tend to come loose as I found out .

So the kits had all new nuts and the assorted other parts in other words all new hardware .

Automatic Hubs were not one of Toyota`s best Ideas

the auto hubs and manual hubs have different bodies and internals; the internals and bodies are not interchangeable. however, they will swap out with each other as complete units.

Okay so just making sure,
the aisin manual hub dial, internals and body will replace the auto hub body and internals with out the spindle nut conversion kit?
is it easier to just get the spindle nut conversion kit and not switch the hub bodies?

NO. You cannot use any of the auto hub stuff. Conversion kit, or none.

Switch over the hubs and spindle nut stuff from your other truck. That's all you need.
