Weird Overheating Problem
I can not figure this overheating issue out, i’ve done a compression test, block test, replaced the thermostat. I have 3.0L with an aftermarket radiator that will only overhear on the freeway going 50-70mph up a hill (and only when it shifts out of overdrive). This winter I moved the auxillary trans cooler to the side as it used to sit in front of the radiator and that helped and I though I solved it.....But, this summer the issue seems to have returned. Again I did a block test and replaced the thermostat. I finally had a mechanic look at it and flush the radiator but he couldnt find the issue.
Any one have a thought?

Checked your fan clutch?
Maybe fan clutch is not engaging so your fan is not running as fast as it needs to (it should follow speed of the pulley).

Or do you have an electric cooling fan?

So aside from the leak no issues with previous radiator?
Your aftermarket one has good review
Hard to tell without knowing exactly characterisitcs of coupling at different temps and rpm's.
But a quick look like I linked above is free and will give u some idea.

....After-market meaning made by someone else to fit the truck or OEM meaning made by same manufacturer that makes them for Toyota?
That's the only thing that changed?
System bled well?
Temp sender and wiring was not damaged during R & R?
Timing was not changed?
Yes, we'd think so.
Is shroud back in?

Sorry for the confusion it is not a Toyota brand radiator or denso I think made them for toyota that year but it is supposed to be “OE quality”
the shroud is back on
it used to do it all the time even in the winter so I moved the trans cooler which I installed in front of the radiator to a location closer to the headlight and not in front of the radiator. When I did this I drove up a mountain pass at 70mph with no issue. So maybe i’m just not getting enough air through the radiator? I guess that would suggust either a crap radiator or a dying fan clutch. But I sitll seem to think at 70mph that you should be able to just have no fan and be fine

I burped it twice when I installed the radiator and have done this again when I first noticed the overheating.
I did the radiator in the winter of 2017 and noticed the problem last summer 2017, I can’t remember if I drive up any hills in the freeway but I noticed it on the first trip over the mountains that summer. So I can’t say it was because of the radiator change or not, i’m half tempted to just go buy a toyota radiator and try that. A mechanic looked at it for me as well and couldnt return with an answer other than he thought maybe it had a minor headgasket leak that was undetectable but since then i’ve done an additional compression test and blick test both passed.

Before you throw parts at it figure out the problem.
Pressure test the system, including the cap (BTW what is it's pressure rating?), check the overflow hose and tank for leaks. There is also a "thing" about bypass (my term) thermostats mentioned here at times see if you can find a thread on that.

Ok i figured it out, turns out it was the thermostat, something was preventing it from opening fully. Not sure how I missed it the first time but I popped a new one in and drive up a few hills and its seems fine now!
