93 2wd Windshield Removal

I have a '93' 2wd extended cab. Can anybody tell me if the windshield is held in with adhesive and the rubber weatherstrip OR is it in there with just the rubber weatherstrip ?? Thinking of painting and my weatherstrip is pretty ratty and should be replaced.

Thanks

It would really depend if it was ever replaced .

Just be careful old brittle windshields don`t like to be moved

You might be getting a New one.

The only one I ever got out without it shattering was by cutting the pillars and along the roof .

But it broke installing it since my very expensive trip to the ER I let the glass pros do any glass work.

Pretty easy to find by removing a piece of interior pillar trim.

It will be glued in, if you have black rubber trim, it has been replaced before and the chrome was discarded. An experienced auto-glass tech would have a 50% chance of saving the windshield to reuse. Better yet, he might be able to replace the trim without removing the glass. Are you close to Leesburg VA. ?

^^^ No I'm in Central Pa.Not sure if it was ever replaced or not. It does have the rubber weatherstrip with the chrome insert though.Chrome still there. I'll have to pop a piece of pillar trim off and check for adhesive.

Thanks

If it is a black strip with a chrome stripe in the middle, and the windshield has Toyota etched on it, it should be original. It will be a 4 piece molding. The metal sides are clipped on, the metal bottom is fastened by screws under the cowl. The top strip will be plastic that is glued in place and usually not reusable. I work in Leesburg, but live in Martinsburg WV. Just about 30miles from PA southern border. To take the pieces off and reinstall them you will need a WFS 598C molding top strip and FW598 89-96 clip kit. You might be able to source them on the internet.

I just recalled, it could be a gasket set, but they’re very rare on that year. That would be a WBL623 and removed with a hook took and installed with just a long 3/8” rope. If you can get pictures I tell you exactly what you have.

sechott, Thanks. Are those part #'s from Toyota or are they aftermarket ? I've never posted any pictures before so I'll have to figure that out, I'll try to get some posted.

Getting OEM for those parts are not nessary, aftermarket is very equivalent yet cheaper. If yours is a gasket set you may just need a chrome locking strip for the gasket. Any autoglass place should be able to do that in 20 minutes. A black locking strip would be cheaper but you’ll lose chrome.
