2nd gen 22re into a 3rd gen pickup truck
I currently have two pickups with 22re motors. One is a 1987 22re with a automatic trans. Its currenly running but needs rebuilt. The body is rough. The other truck is a 90 22re with a manual trans. The motor is currently removed and mostly disassembled. I bought the truck off a guy who only wanted $100 for it so I couldn't resist. The entire truck is in excellent condition. No rust what so ever. So my idea is once I pull the motor out of the 87 and rebuild it, I was going to put it in my 90. My question is what troubles could I run into with the swap. Electrical, ignition, etc. Thanks.

You could rebuild the engine (long block) from the 1987 truck and just install the long block into the 1990 Truck, keeping all the electrical components (injectors, sensors, wiring harnesses, ECU, etc.) with the 1990 truck. Both engines in long block form should be the same.
You would then bolt up the intake manifold/plenum, and exhaust manifold from the 1990 truck to the rebuilt 1987 engine.
Then you would install all of the 1990's injectors and sensors to the rebuilt engine.
Basically, the only thing that you would need to swap over from the 1987 truck to the 1990 truck is just the long block engine, keeping everything else in place.

Thanks for the responses guys. Hopefully I can find all the sensors (the wire harness looks like a rat nest). Ill probably just buy new injectors since I'm rebuilding the motor anyway.
