Auto tranny late shift

Auto tranny late shift
My auto tranny is shifting into 3rd at approximately 53mph and to what I assume 4th(overdrive) @ approximately 70mph. Is this normal? I feel like the shifts should come about 5mph sooner. I read about the kickdown cable and believe that to be the problem. Either to loose or tight because I did fiddle with it when I took off my TB. Can someone please tell if Im supposed to tighten or loosen to correct. Thanks in advance.

You can read about the adjustment of the throttle cable here:
http://web.archive.org/web/201408160...46prelimin.pdf
That manual is for a '93 A340F. You didn't give any information about your rig, but the adjustment is the same on almost all of these transmissions.

Well, you didn't read it here. The throttle cable has nothing to do with shift-points; that's why you have a computer. The throttle cable controls how hard the transmission shifts.

Why don't you help assure we're not on a Wild Goose Chase by telling us what Transmission you have? It will be listed on the door pillar.
On the Electronically Controlled Transmissions I believe are on the 2d gens, the cable from the Throttle Body to the Transmission is ... the Throttle Cable. Adjustment of which is shown in the FSM I linked above.
On my '94 (A340H), there is a button next to the shift lever that switches the Transmission into "sport" mode or some such. That delays all the shift points to give you neck-snapping acceleration. So I never use it (having the engine wind out like you're describing just doesn't sound good to me). Check for that switch, and make sure it's in the position you want.
The A340 (various suffixes) won't shift into Over Drive when the engine is cold. So if the ECT sensor is not working, you'll get late (or more commonly, no) O/D shifts.

I have a 94 22re 4spd auto. On the door jamb I dont see any mention of A340. I see A/TM A01A/W55??? Also I know it isn't the ect because once its warm the shifts smooth out. Also replaced already with no noticeable difference. Seems like a pressure issue thats why Im thinking cable. If I let off the gas slightly when high up in the rpms it changes gears immediately.

A W55 is a manual transmission. http://web.archive.org/web/201107082...26descript.pdf
But I wouldn't expect that to follow "A/TM" So I'm not sure what you are dealing with.
IF you had an A340H (which has an integral transfer case), the shift from 3 to O/D at full throttle should happen at 81-86mph.

So you may "normal."
