Exclamation How to install kill switch on 1982 Toyota pickup with mechanical fuel pump?

Specifically which wire in the steering column of my 1982 Toyota pickup should I cut into to put a 30 amp ON/OFF toggle switch? I searched the internet and this forum and most recommend a switch to the fuel pump (mine is mechanical) or they don't say which wire to cut into. Can someone please tell me? I'm not an electrical type so please explain it like you're talking to a 10 year old.

Thanks!

I put a 40 amp toggle switch in my 81 truck. I took out the glove box insert, found the black/red wire coming through the firewall and cut it and installed the switch. In my truck the black/red wire goes between the fuse link at the battery and the positive wire on ignition switch. I positioned the switch where I could find easily for me, and not for some ripoff artist. With it switched off, if they try to bust the ignition sw or hot wire, they still would not have any juice. They probably are not going try any further, so it's a deterrent. I used it quite often in public places after my truck got stolen from work one day

You can place it anywhere you like, just my experience

Search google for "22r kill switch". There are a lot of threads out there.

Here's one from a forum I visit a lot:

Lons81 Hey, thanks for replying! When I remove the plastic cover that's under the steering column of my 82 there are 6 wires that go to the ignition switch. SEE PHOTO BELOW (black/red, blue/red, black/white, black/yellow, 2 green/white) I'm really lacking when it comes to electrical knowledge, so here's a dumb question... Would the black/red wire you tapped into behind the glove box be the same black/red wire that goes to the ignition switch?

You are correct with the color codes on the wires on the switch

Blk/red = hot from battery
Blu/red = accessories
Blu/yel = ignition
Blk/wh = start

Not sure about the 2 Green/white wires are for. In my wiring diagram, one goes to hazard sw and other goes to turn signals.

i would run a continuity check between the battery positive and the Blk/red terminal on switch, before cutting

The classic car thief scene has the perp doing it at that spot.
Look elsewhere, wire and locate the switch there, and don't mention it on the forum

I put the toggle switch in a super hide to find place so I'm good to go now. Thanks for your help!

jeez... it's like, "take the hint!"

I'll just have so many buttons, wires, levers, and switches that it scares them off...

"I'm gonna steal me a truck..."

"...or that Civic over there."

Take it a level up.
If you're switching power, use single pole- double throw switch and relay so when "kill" mode is activated each time someone tries to start the truck the horn blows. LOL!

Hah hah, I really like the idea of making the horn honk when they try to start it and if I wasn't such a dunce at electrical stuff I would do that. For now, I guess I'll go with the hidden kill switch, a phony flashing red led "alarm" light, and the kind of Club that locks the steering wheel to the brake.

Would a 35 amp ON/OFF toggle switch work with a relay to make the horn honk?

I think the horn already has a relay (on 89 and later models it does, not sure about older trucks).

Just follow the horn wire (only one) to a spot where you can splice a line to the fake switch. Wire the other side of the switch to ground.

Or like me if you end up with MSD ignition. Hidden switch to ground with the "Points" wire. Crank but no spark.

it worked 3x's on the 81. I came out from work one morning to see the door open and found the ignition destroyed
