22re gas mileage, What are u getting?

Saw they had a sticky in the 1st gen forum on what kind of gas mileage ppl were getting. Got me curious about the 22re. Its hard for me to calculate without an odometer but i estimated (thanks to GPS unit) around +20mpg highway and 15-18mpg city. That was with bad oil and filter, no cat converter and no tune up yet. Bought it after sitting for who knows how long

Wonder who's getting the best mileage out of a 22re?

87 5 speed 4runner, stock everything besides rusted out exhaust and no catalytic converter (Stolen) and just shy of 300k miles. Getting about 18/19 on the highway, and burning a quart of oil every 150 miles.

Red face

87 4Runner 5 speed .

Tuned up ready to go I get a pretty average 10-12 mpg all year long.

Now I must say at any given time there is between 500 to 900 pounds of tools in the back

87 4runner 4:10 gears and 31 BFG AT on 10 wides I am getting around 19-21 mpg. Depends on whether or not I wind the gears out.

86 xtra cab with the same motor, 4:56 gears and 35 mud terrains, I was getting around 16-17 mpg. No matter how I drove it. Both are 5 speeds.

mileage with 88 SR5, rebuilt engine

until i had my engine rebuilt last fall, i got about 25mpg around town. after the rebuild (about 1200 miles) the mileage has dropped to 22 and it uses lots of oil, about a quart per 500 miles. acceleration has improved, and no oil drips on the ground

I call shenanigans on that. Brand new 22RE autos got 18mpg on 225's on the highway. No way he's getting that on 31's in the city 25 years later.

Looks like 20mpg city and 25+ mpg hwy is the best so far! Also a good average.

Thats impressive comin from 20 yr old engines! Not to mention most of us have bigger tires than stock.

Keep posting! Anyone getting 30mpgs??

I started keeping track of my 92 22RE manual. I get around 17-18 MPG in winter and 21-23 MPG in summer. Almost all city driving, but some highway in summer. The subzero temps really cut down on MPGs. Plus I'm in 4HI most of the time in winter. Here is my log from last Feb through July.

266.5/14.05=18.9
259.7/14.08=18.44
259.3/12.70=20.41
295.1/13.31=22.17
299.4/14.22=21.08
300.4/13.52=22.21
199.8/8.5=23.5
315.8/14.07=22.44
311.8/13.24=23.54
