That was it!
I looked up a photo of proper erg gasket. Mine was still in the bag.
Put it on and engine running smooth as can be for a 22re.
Case closed!

Quick question, my front upper exhaust manifold stud is stripped. I put it in just tightening enough to stay in until I get a new stud bolt....

Hey there.
I did a HG replacement for an oil leak then went to start and had a fuel injector leak so replaced all fuel injector gaskets.
Went to start and idle is very slow and rough then stalls....

Once i cleaned the block surface for the new gasket i took one of the original head bolts, cleaned the treads then tested in each bolt hold, then blew out each with air.
Seems like the thread on bad...

So I have the timing chain TDC and tied with plastic straps.
Am I supposed to be able to lift the head off and have the timing chain sprocket at top slip thru it.
Or do I remove the larger cam...

Finally was able to put a screw driver under the head and give it a lift after a all day marathon.
I left the intake manifold on so had to disconnect all those damn wires underneath it and on...

Head Bolt Victory thanks to all

Just had to sleep to regain my bearings.
Took a few hits on head of bolt with a round chisel and that did the trick. The lower threads on bolt were gone so definitely have to clean that head bolt...
