Thinking of a new printer
 

My current printer is from '95 and is the HP 560C.
Very old, but reliable.
It is out of ink right now and takes two cartridges.
New ink will cost close to $60, plus the printer is old by todays standards.

Been looking online at some, and Dell seems to have a good deal on their 922 model.

Anyone have any experience with this model?
Besides printing, it is also a flat bed scanner.

I have a real nice scanner, but it does not work with my current PC since it uses a scsi card.

Having both a printer and scanner in one unit would be nice.

Dell printers are more-or-less just rebadged Lexmark printers. You should be able to find a review of a comparable Lexmark model.

Also, despite their similar heritage, Dell printers cannot use Lexmark ink cartridges...Dell made miniscule changes just so they could control the market.

As for recommendations - I'm very partial to HP. Checkout Costco if you have a membership. The usually have good deals on the All-in-one setups. :D

I've had numerous printers over the years and every one that I bought that wasn't an HP is no longer with us. All my HPs are still going strong. I currently use a Laserjet 6L and a DeskJet G55 (color/black copier, 2400 dpi scanner, inkjet printer). Very reliable, high quality printers.

Another vote for HP printers. I have a couple and other than the cost of ink, I have no complaints.

Also, Corey, based upon my experiences, I would stay away from mutlifunction devices. If part of it fails, you are out the other elements as well. And, you REALLY don't want to know what I know about the chaos surrounding the driver story for those things. Stick with components and you can't go wrong, except for using more desk space.

HP or Canon. Stay away from Lexmark. I've had a few and every one sucked. I have a Canon S750 now that I've had for a few years and it's still going strong. The thing I really like about mine is that it has a separate ink cartridge for each color (Black, Yellow, Magenta, & Cyan), so if one runs out, I don't have to replace the whole cartridge.

another vote for canon. i have the i850 which is a few years old by now. Still prints great 4x6. I'm sure the newer models are a lot better.
Also comes in 4 cartridges just Churnd listed.

Corey, my workhorse printer is an HP LaserJet 5000 wide format 17ppm. It hasn't missed a beat since 1998. The only time I've heard of an HP having problems is with no-name brands of toner. The HP toner is spendy, but makes up to 10,000 copies @ 1,200 dpi or until the print head dries up. Of course there are HP 8"X10" LaserJets for a fraction of the cost.

I got a new Canon i960 photoprinter last year. Beautiful output and the six tank system makes consumables affordable, around $12/tank anywhere. Replaceable print head, too, a big plus compared to most others. I got mine from Dell with free shipping, and have seen them for $120 there. They have a new series called Pixma (?), but the one review of the 4-tank unit showed it not up to the i960 print quality.

I replaced a relatively expensive Xerox printer with a HP psc1315xi all in one. Print, copy, scan, no fax. $99 at costco. Best I've had so far.

I'm using this one now.

I've always liked HP stuff. I've also had good luck with Brother multifunction lasers. I've had two Epsons inkjets that both gave me problems though.

I will stick with HP I think, as I have not had one bit of trouble with this old one I have now.

I still like the idea of it all in one unit.
I do not need super duper hugh quality, but even the scanner in this looks to be better than my old Mustek 600 scanner I have now.

I've had my HP G55 all in one unit for about 7 years now and used it with 3 different computers. Not a lick of a hint of a problem and my wife being a teacher uses the crap out of it all year round. HP is the way to g o.!!!

HP makes good stuff. Couldnt be happier with my HP Photosmart 7550, prints awsome photos on regular paper and profesional quality on glossy paper.

I have only had one printer, a mid leval Epson, and I wouldn't recomend it. It has really left me hanging on a number of ocasions so just don't get an Epson.
