Setting up HTTP on a server
My friend Andy who runs the gaming server we have Counter Strike Source and UT 2004 on needs some help.
Here is his site: http://www.allprogamer.com/ It is not done yet, and it will include a forum later. What he wants to do is let members type in www.allprogamer.com/data to access that folder so they can download custom map packs and sounds from him instead of searching on the 'Net elsewhere for them. Right now the only way folk's can do this is via FTP: ftp://allprogamer.com If you try http or www, no workie :( http://www.allprogamer.com/data/ He can config Counter Strike in game to include "live" URLs to click on, but only html ones, and not ftp ones. The server is running XP on it. What does he need to do to turn this feature on? Or is it even possible? Here at YotaTech we can type in an URL for a folder and access files from it, and this is what he wants to achieve. Thanks, |
All you need to do is add a few lines into the Apache config file. Go to the section which explains aliases, there's a good description how to use it right in the file, and just add a /data/ alias which points to the same place on the hard drive where the FTP is looking.

Thanks, I will see if he can figure that out or not.

Google .htaccess
You can configure a certain "folder" or web page to where only certain people with the right user names and passwords can get in. |
Oh yeah, I use that on my own website so I can view any of my files in a folder as long as there is no index file in there.
He does not seem to have it set up yet with the Apache lines. |
Here something to check out if he is running XP pro its free and I did the same and built a quick web server with hotlinks to some files on a older laptop to serv up some videos.
