Norton GoBack roasted my partition table

The title says it all.

I was trying to do a little spring cleaning on the computer due to it being pretty slow lately. My antivirus subscription ran out and they wanted me to spend $70 for a new version of Systemworks (screw that) while GoBack wasn't even working for me, so I figured time to remove them; unfortunately, messing with it was a bad idea... When I tried to modify the install of Systemworks to remove GoBack and Antivirus, it gave me an error and then Antivirus stopped working. I'm like great, nice uninstall program.

The uninstaller told me to download a program that would remove all Norton programs from my computer so I did that, but on restart one of my hard drives (I have 4) wasn't showing up. Turns out removing the incomplete install of GoBack completely corrupted the partition table on that drive, rendering all of the stuff on it unreadable :bang: :barf:

This was a big problem because I had all of my music and pictures on there :scared: Needless to say, I was (and still am) ready to strangle Mr. Norton.

So, after spending all afternoon trying to find a program that could fix this incredible glitch on Norton's part, I got a program called Active@ Partition Recovery. It was able to successfully scan the hard drive and recover the partition and all of the files on the drive. :whew:

SO now here I am backing up all of my stuff on to DVD-R's sodon't have to worry about losing this irreplaceable stuff anymore. Long story short: avoid Norton GoBack like the plague, because it doesn't work like advertised and once you remove it you'll have to pray you don't lose anything important in the process.

:saw:

Wow what a mess. Yeah several years ago I had some real problems with Norton too...

Good luck!

Turns out that one of my friends had the exact same thing happen to his computer when uninstalling GoBack, but he wasn't smart enough to get a partition recovery tool. I'm sure he lost a lot of quality porn that day lol :chairfall

Another reason why norton and macafee (both made by shiattech) suck and I wont use them.

I love Norton WinDoctor and Speed Disk, but that's about it. I frickin' HATE their Anti-Virus, so now I'm using AVG Free.

Norton Ghost v.9.0 rendered my new internal HD unusable when I attempted to restore a mirror image from an external HD.

I have always told people to steer clear of any Norton product.
I have seen it toast to many PCs including friends PCs.

The last good norton product where the norton utilities for dos as I recall. I haven't seen anything useful which works since.

NORTON GHOST SUCKS. this is comming from a tech who sees people use this crap software all the time. People RUIN their computers with this software. I reccomend and use this software called ACRONIS... Allows to make EXACT images of hard drives, make restore cds, make a restore partition, and ALSO allows you to create a image of your windows install with applications...than acronis strips the drivers out so you can install it on a diffrent machine.

one of my fav. programs of all time. go buy it now...

I'll keep that in mind, acronis that is.

Thanks for the heads up.

Norton Ghost was aquired for another company.

The earlier versions ( 6.0 and earlier) are more worthy than the new "crap" coming from Eugene, Oregon.

Thanks folks for informing me about GoBack. Another product I will pass on.
