Multiple-processor system support Win XP pro

So Ive got my new P4 3.0ghz 800fsb prescott cpu with hyper threading and I know my mobo can hadle it but then i read the OS needs to be multiple processor compatable to use the hyper threading. I would hope win xp pro is but I dunno anything bout it. Do i need to change some setting or get a special service pack ? i cant find much info about through google.

Hey, Bubba, you already have a dual processor (sort of).

Hit control+del+alt and goto performance. Notice two CPU usage windows? You should. P4 478 and up processors have a pseudo 2nd CPU. So, no problems.

Oh yah, you can set what process runs on what processor by using the task manager and going to processes.

Right click on a process and hit "set Affinity". You will have a choice on what process runs on what processor. Good luck.

hey pho,
by default hyperthreading is active, and xp by itself will try to seperate the applications you run into two different threads so that you can take advantage of HT.
