Going to build a computer, I haven't done this in decades..

Parts list so far.

Mini-ITX board
D945GCLF2

got Sata cable today..

500 gb SATA laptop harddrive

Tiny little power supply, need to get pics..

Going to make a wooden enclosure from the left over walnut from the crib

1 gb Ram, not sure came with the board

Intel N270 dual core Processor
1.6 GHz 533 MHz FSB 512k Cache

I might try to add a CD/DVD drive, but not sure yet..

iamsuperbleeder Feb 12, 2011 06:50 AM

why not max the possible RAM out to 2GB?

Outsane Feb 12, 2011 07:48 PM

Cause the ram was FREE!

I got a copy of Win7 32bit for it too!

iamsuperbleeder Feb 13, 2011 08:45 PM

oh...

well, free is nice I guess, lol

Outsane Feb 14, 2011 08:06 AM

i might get a new stick of ram its only about $30

System is up and running... now I need to build a case

I was actually amazed that I could just plug in everything and it all worked, its been decades since I build a comp from scratch

it's a lot easier than people make it out to be :great: assuming you have parts that are compatible with each other of coarse

Outsane Feb 14, 2011 10:22 AM

It runs.. just like this

What's the system gonna be used for?

I vote for another gig of ram too.

Outsane Feb 14, 2011 12:03 PM

Mostly built to be used with a DIY CNC machine or 3d printer...

secondary I'll probably use it to watch netflix movies and stuff in the bedroom

Magnusian Feb 15, 2011 08:28 AM

Cool. You're totally gonna have to post the build for the CNC Machine or 3D printer when you make it, whichever you go with.

I suggest that you build a Mendel 3D printer, that way you can print out the parts and sell them to me for cheap. ;)

Outsane Feb 15, 2011 08:38 AM

Will do still deciding which to do... they both seem like a ton of fun..

meisentones Feb 15, 2011 08:45 AM

Do you think you'll SAS it?:wrench:

Philbert Feb 15, 2011 08:58 AM

Cool! If you can work on a truck you can build a PC :)

What are you going to use it for?

SInce you have win 7, you can use DDR 3 RAM, and use MORE of it...and DDR 3 is cheaper than DDR 2. ZOTAC makes some great smaller motherboards, and some even have discreet graphics on them - check them out and good luck!

board and parts have already been acquired..

Intel says I can run these kinds of ram

Sorry, Outsane, totally missed that part :)

If you get the bug to build more, something to think about (DDR3 and ZOTAC) ;) I know you got most of this stuff free, so it's hard to disagree with you!

Outsane Feb 15, 2011 09:37 AM

If I get handed more free computers... I might...

I think making a DIY CNC or 3d printer will keep me busy for awhile
