Try it...it's free, may help. I have not looked at this one.

It looks good but I haven't ried that one. As long as the OP takes his time and follows the instructions then it should be alright. I also found a software solution that they'd have to pay for that'll do the job. At least they have a few options now. If they go your route I'd recommend they have a computer literate friend do it for some beer and pizza. :)

finding a friend to help would be best I think at this point. Say no to the GS though. They will not recover passwords. I'd be more than happy to help out. Just find me a flight and I'll do it for wings and beer!!!:bigok:

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.. It'll be a good reference for Vista users in the future. I may have to try Lumpy's idea at home on my Vista laptop and see if it works just for grins and giggles. I also hate paying for computer support that's why I learned them way back when.

Well while I'd try almost anything before paying for it myself I do think if it's your last hope they will remove the password i know we did it. If you can establish ownership kind of like a locksmith. If you know anyone who can help you that knows anything give the free utility a try. I will caution that once you start messing with it if it doesn't work a reload may be the only option. Also be wary of any spyware/malware that may come attached with the free software. If it works and you start getting any wierd pop ups then use a good removal tool etc..

I'm working on the trinity now, to see what it looks like. I may not be able to tell you till later. I'm heading out in a few, I'll let you know what it looks like later this evening.

Lumpy 04-15-2009 01:29 PM

Ok I couldn't let it go...so this is what I have. Follow the instructions with Trinity and you should be alright...My Vista machine is a bit different being that it's on a domain and were running the Business version but you "should" be alright. If you know of someone who knows a bit more it would not hurt to have them over. Worst case, reload and you are at that point already. BB and those other places will not recover passwords. Gotta love Linux, just wish I knew more!!!

Richjrosa 04-15-2009 02:04 PM

Well I had to try it as well and it does work at least on my xp pro box. I'm sure it'll work on Vista too. I will say that if you follow the instruction it will wipe out all of your passwords. You can just do the admin log in password if you say no to one of the options. Very nice find Lumpy!! I will be using this in the future I'm sure. You have to love open source. :)

Richjrosa 04-15-2009 02:05 PM

You can even upgrade non admin accounts to admin scary

ozziesironmanoffroad 04-15-2009 02:22 PM

lumpy, that link u sent me worked. the instructions on the page were incorrect for vista, and it took me about an hour to figure it out. but the computer is up now. thanks for ya'lls help!!!
and incorect as i had to enter my sisters user name instead of administrator to clear the password.

Lumpy 04-15-2009 02:53 PM

I think if you used the * you'd be alright...either way at least this saved you a reload!!! I'm glad I could help. Now, if I were you I'd create another account and password for that so if that happens again you have another way to get in.

yes. Deciding to get my BS in comp sci was the best choice I have ever made. The demand is everywhere, especially when it come to security.
