Emailing problem re Outlook---"Rejected: Relay not allowed"
alrighty, microsoft experts. i am getting this email bounce back message:
550 Recipient Rejected: Relay not allowed Google searching turned up this MS page: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...128331033.aspx Mental searching in my brain turned up this result: :dunno: I've been getting this error every once in awhile, even emailing to yahoo.com email addresses. Can anyone enlighten me on what this is and the fix? Bob |
It has nothing to do with Microsoft. Somewhere along the path of your mail, a server is not getting the correct authentication data to pass the message along, so it's rejecting it as an attempt to send anonymous email.
It used to be that just about any mail server would pass along mail for just about any other mail server, but then the spammers and virus writers found uses for that, so the authentication procedures are more rigid now. That article is right on track. Contact whomever owns your outgoing mail server and have them touch base whomever owns the server you are trying to send mail to and have them figure out between them where the disconnect is. |
