Who's done it???
|
i drive sometimes with a laptop... does that count?
plug my gps into it and using a few mapping s/w... play some MP3s from it. |
PM Poboy....he had one in his already.

I started it:
http://www.midiwall.com/4Runner/pc.html But bailed because of a number of issues that I didn't have the wanna to overcome like where to mount the screen and not be obnoxious; running a magnifier app on Windows to be able to see; etc. What are your goals? MP3/WMA playback is the most common. {edit - fixed link} There's a site dedicated to doing this. Check out http://www.mp3car.com. Search the forum here, the topic's come up before. |
I just took mine out for upgrades. mp3car.com is the site.
I have the same user name there also. I put a micro-atx pIII 866mhz mobo with 128mb, 20gb hd, cd-rw/dvd, 9200se pci, soundblaster pci under the drivers seat. I ran my usb gps receiver out to the roof and had a touchpad mouse mounted above my emergency brake. I mounted a 7" lilliput touchscreen vga monitor in front of the ashtray and ran it all off a 400w inverter. It was great but I only had it in for a month and a half to test it out. The gps and 2000 mp3's were great to have. Didnt use the dvd much but I didnt go on many trips over that time. If you have any questions email or pm me. |
What do you want to do with it and what ya want to know? I had 3 different computers in my old 4Runner. Started out with a midsize tower, then a book pc, and then an Ez-go. Kept getting smaller and smaller. It's pretty easy to get one installed with just a power inverter...but the whole screen thing is a PITA on a low budget.
As everyone else said...http://www.mp3car.com is where its at! |
