please help gps newbie pick a multipurpse gps

Im looking to get a GPS because I get lost very easily and it really frustrates me. I'm looking to get a GPS that I can use 95% onroad that tells me where to go. Points of interest built in would be nice also but is not a must.

I would like to be able to use this in my 4runner, on my motorcycle and also be able to carry it with me if im not in a vehicle.

Do handhelds have these features?

please help..thanks in advance

I think you also have to figure out how much you're going to need it. If a lot, I suggest one of the fancy ones that go for over $500. There are many to choose from.

If you're like me and you only need it on occassion but also want the portability (no hand held though or at least it would be akward), I like the i3 by Garmin. It's easy to use, sub $300 six months ago, and I can load all the Western coast of the U.S. on the card it came with. Negatives are no touch screen. Here's a pic:

I use a Garmin GPSMAP 60CS (no longer in production). Pretty accurate with the quad-helix and can attach to the mt bike or clip to a backpack when hiking. Sub-300 bucks. Obviously, it will not tell you when to turn when offroad, but will backtrack. It will direct you while on paved roads. The CSx (replaced CS) model runs a little more $$$ and has a better processor and Micro SDram slot for more maps if you desire.

im really liking the garmin 60CSx...it seems to have everything I want and goes above and beyond with removable memory. It is under $400 which is in my price range. One question I have is if i can put address into the gps while away from a computer? or do i need a computer to program routes?
