Hand held radios

After searching it seem that there are few threads on hand held radio's. I've looked into getting a CB and I've read though some of threads but I can't really justify getting one at the moment.

What I'm looking at is getting a pair of hand held radios but I'm not sure which ones to look for or what features I should even look for. So any help you guys could give me would be great (I don't have a very big budget) or threads on this topic that I missed would be much appreciated.

What about a cheap GPS that I load coordinates into (there's a lot of threads on this but I asked anyways. :saw: just to kill a dead horse). Garmin seems to be the most popular.

It all depends on what you plan to do with them. motorola two ways (the ones you get at wall mart) are nice but lack range, but the motorola uhf/vhf are the best two way I have used and they cost a pocket. Cbs work great, the incabs not the hand held cbs they have a range of a rock thrown by a tot. As for gps a good map will cost 10$ from the USFS or for free you could get a wood cutting map at the USFS or DNR.

at work we have VHF marine radios (good for ~25 miles) mounted in all the trucks cause cb's just dont have the distance we need. We also have VHF hand helds (good for ~5 miles) for when we gotta get out

CB are fine for about 5-10miles at best, good for wheeling..

UHF/VHF is much more powerfull but aint cheap. We have some in our work trucks and they are good for 50miles easy..

I think with shipping they were about $100 for the pair.
Well worth it, they are very well constructed, and also can be used in the rain.
