GPS, what should I look for....?
For my b-day present I want to get something fun. I want to get a GPS unit. I thought it would be fun to get into geocauching (sp.) I have reading into various GPS units.
What is the memory?
Is that for software storage?
Where should I buy from? Ebay?
Other uses for GPS. My wife travels with work and gets lost (blonde) a lot. I thought the GPS would be useful for her.
Other people please chime in.
Sorry if this is has the covered too many times, but no one touched on "geocaching". Thanks.

I will say a little of what I have said before: look for expandable memory (SD card probably), a nice big screen with sharp resolution (doesn't necessarily have to be color, although that might be nice), as long a battery life as you can find (hopefully a rechargeable LI-Ion battery), and name brand like Garmin, Magellan, or there's another aircraft one but I forget the name.
you could buy on Ebay if you know exactly what you're looking for, I'd buy used in like-new condition, as long as you think the seller is trustworthy. Other than that, use Froogle to try and find prices. Look online at places like Cabella's and REI, but be warned it may be pretty expensive at REI.
For Garmin, the GPSMAP 60 series looks like a good choice:

For Magellan, I'm partial to the older Meridian series, but the eXplorist series looks good as well:

For Geocaching, a nice feature to have on a GPS is a built-in 3-axis compass. This way you can simply point your GPS in a direction to see which way to go. If your GPS doesn't have a built-in compass, you have to walk in a direction for a little bit so it can see which way you're pointing. I have the Magellan Meridian Platinum, which has a built-in compass, thermometer, and barometer. I laugh at guys that don't have the compass now because it's a pain to fingure out which way you're pointing.

I would definitely recommend getting Topo map software for your GPS, it's great for hiking and off-roading. Will probably be around $70. As for Street maps, well the Topo software has streets in it too, so I'd probably just live with that and forego the turn-by-turn directions (unless your GPS supports it).

For Lowrance, I'd look into the iFinder series, either the iFinder Explorer or iFinder Expedition C. Both look like good GPS units, and both have built-in compass.

EDIT: Oh and one more thing, probably want it to be waterproof, that's just something you don't want to have to worry about is protecting the GPS from getting wet. That way you can take it out on a rainy day or something, or possibly rafting or boating.

Ive done my research tested and I have concluded that the next GPS i would get is a GPSMAP 60CSx by Garmin. I currently have the Garmin eTrex Vista C and really like it but I would like to have the bigger screen, more accuracy, and expandable memory that the 60CSx has. Just my thoughts though.

That is a good choice, good luck on the bidding. If I were you, I wouldn't bid on it anymore and instead try sniping something around there. Best way to get a low price on ebay.
Definitely look into a windshield mount (with cig lighter power), a microSD chip, and the Garmin Topo software.
