Garmin Quest
Just picked up the new Garmin Quest and I'm loving ever second of it! It's small enough to be the same size as a handheld device.
You can check out the product here: http://www.garmin.com/products/quest/ The cool feature that I really like is the screen changes the backlighting when it gets dark. This means during the daytime, you're able to see the screen w/ the light background and as it gets dark, it'll switch to the reverse where the roads are white and the background is dark. (done via daylight saving time set when you configure the gps) Nice constrast and easy on the eyes. You can also customize the right column where it shows some details: speed, time, distance, distance to next, time to next, etc etc... It's adding an address is only a few clicks away. The process to add the address itself is a pain though as you gotta use the arrow key to input it one at a time but it works. Finding the shortest route is automatic and if you deviate from your current path, it'll auto reroute to find the next shortest route available. (this option can be changed). Heck there's even an "offroad" option (which I haven't used yet). Do keep in mind that this GPS unit is purely for the Automobile so it's pretty useless as an outdoor GPS unit. The unit comes complete with a car charger/speaker combo that'll talk to you!! Also includes a home charger and the USB cable. Software has the full blown version of the City Select NA (unlocked). Purchased on fleabay for just shy of $500... ahh toys.... |
Does it have a decent base to mount it on?
Looks nice. Makes my old GPS V look like caca but it does the trick. :D |
suction cup mount. it works
|
i got one for christmas... and it is the coolest thing ever! i have my base hard wired into my runner so there isnt any wires visalbe running down the dash. the speaker sits right above my fuse box on the drivers side.

Chris, do you have photos of that cuz the 4 ft is just too short!
Thanks! |

this is how i hard wired mine in:
http://www1.uop.edu/%7Ec-eaklan/4run...s/garmin/1.JPG ran the wire down the windsheild: http://www1.uop.edu/%7Ec-eaklan/4run...s/garmin/2.JPG took the trim apart and ran the wire between the 2 panels: http://www1.uop.edu/%7Ec-eaklan/4run...s/garmin/4.JPG went to radio shack bought an 12v power source wired it to my aux. fuse box under the hood, and then let it just "hang out" on all the wires running to lights and amps ect. http://www1.uop.edu/%7Ec-eaklan/4run...s/garmin/6.JPG and plugged it in to the speaker/power. http://www1.uop.edu/%7Ec-eaklan/4run...s/garmin/5.JPG and then tucked every thing up and out of the way. http://www1.uop.edu/%7Ec-eaklan/4run...s/garmin/7.JPG |
its always has power to it which is nice, plus if i need to charge my cell phone or whatever and i dont want to be in the car i can unplug it and use the power source for my phone. the only down side is that its not very portable to take with you in another car, you have to pull the dash panels off to get it out.
