External CB Speaker Idea
An idea came to mind as I was driving to work this morning. Can one plug a tape deck adapter (the type you use to connect a portable CD player to an existing auto tape deck) into the external speaker jack of a CB and then into the tape deck, thereby turning your stereo system into an external speaker system for your CB. Of course, you couldn't listen to music while doing this. You would also have to turn the CB's volume down low. You would avoid having to mount an ugly external speaker somewhere.

Hey, my speakers not ugly :D
He he he...I get what you are talking about. I do know that Vince on the forum here has a jack input on the front of his stereo. He plugs the CB external speaker out into the decks jack, and it works out great. Not sure if your way will work, but hey, give it a try and let us know. |
I wasn't referring to yours specifically ;)
Actually, my first thought on the setup was an input jack on the stereo, but since I don't have one, I quickly moved onto the tape adapter. I have one at home, I'll try it tonight. Chris |
FYI,
It works like a charm. The sound is much improved and voices are much easier to understand. Chris |
while we are on this subject where is the best place to mount a cb as i just picked one up for £10 about $15 and am trying to figure out where it would be best to mount it?

Sounds good Chris. You will have to get a pic of the cable setup.
Don't think this can be done on my Sony stereo as I don't have an input jack on it, only the ones for the CD changers I think in the back of it. Mark, how small/big is your CB? Take a look at Jims' post on how he did his Uniden CB. His dash is the same as yours & my 2nd gens. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...=&threadid=734 Corey |
I think that it is about the same size as yours is corey but i will try to fit it in under the radio

I was wondering if you guys with the external CB speakers ever yell at people. You know, like "get out of my way!" or "why did you cut me off!" or "The gas pedal is on the right!"
:D Seriously, do you guys ever do this? Steve |
Oh you mean the PA horns right?
I was thinking for a second what you meant. I mainly use the PA horn under my hood when we are parked while out wheelin'. That way I can hear if someone is trying to reach us. I did use my PA horn at my complex during the beginning of summer. Some kids where walking by and I said' Up against the car with your hands up", it was kind of funny to see the expression on their facees. I should do it late at night and see how many dealers I get upset. Actually most of the delears are gone from my area. I got two kicked out of here personaly. |

Yep, the extra speaker you can buy at most CB shops and Radio Shack.
Most CB radios have tinny sounding speakers in them. With the bigger one I have plugged in, it sounds way better. You have to make sure the CB you buy has the jack on the back for an external speaker, or PA if you want those two features. Some CBs don't have them. Corey |
I use my PA alot, but noy the one from the CB. I have a siren with a 100 watt speaker mounted behind the valance. It is loud enough people next to me on the highway can understand me.
My most common phrase would have to be, "turn your headlights on idiot" because lots of people hare have a tendency to drive around beldon with them off due to the residual lighting. I have a very recegnizable vehicle, so I don't want to make anyone too angry. Lamm |
That whole adapter to tape deck is a great idea, and you say it works too...most of the time when I am wheeling with a group all I have on is the CB-most of the time the radio reception sucks, and its too bumpy for any cd's.
Thanks for the tip. |
I was thinking of using the stock 4" Speaker locations with an amp for in-cab CB sound. The previous owner of my rig cut holes for 6x9's so the 4" holes are empty and I have a couple low wattage amps laying around.
