COAX cable routing for rear mounted CB antenna
So I'm putting a Cobra 19 in my ashtray slot and I was wondering how people routed there 18' of COAX to get to the back of the car. I'm getting the door jamb kit from firestik to mount my antenna on the right rear of the tailgate door jamb. How have you guys also powered your CB? I'm thinking of pulling straight from the battery, with an aftermarket fuse box in the engine compartment. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for your ideas and advice.

I probably should have told you guys what I have. '93 4Runner SR5. Yes, I have done the search on this topic, and haven't found anything that really covered the subject.

I'd run power straight off the battery. its nice to be able to sit in camp with the CB on and not have to have keys in it. (the beer opener is on my key ring.... :D)
as for the coax, pull the trim molding along the bottom and run it under the carpet. once its to the cargo area run it behind the plastic interior panel. that part can be a bitch to get off but it will pop off after you take out the rear seat belt bolt and the top part in the rear with the tweaters and dome light |
i just tapped into the memory power wire(which comes straight from the battery) and ground for my stereo.

Muddog, do you have any whine from the alternator from pulling off of the memory wire? Is that wire in the wiring harness or is it on its own and do you need the keys in the ignition to run the CB?

Along the door jamb works well. But if you have multiple lines like speakers/amp power lines running along there you can get interference at some point. I actually ran mine along the transmission tunnel *removed the seat* and back, cutting across under the rear seat and then under the plastic trim panel along the cargo area.
I pulled mine to a coil inside the storage compartment on the passenger side for the time being. this way I have several options for future antennas. The door jamb, or something mounted to the factory spare carrier. |
for my stereo i ran an extra power wire straight from the battery, i do get some whine but i beleive its just the radio setup, which isnt very good, that is causing it.
