CB problem

I am setting up a CB for the first time.I have a cobra 29 ltd classic.I have 10 ft of coax with 259 connectors and 102in whip. I ran my power to the radio and its getting power and the coax is plugged up.The meter on the radio is showing a 1.5 SWR rating.I have the volume turned all the way up and squelch all the way down.My problem is I hear no noises what so ever.No static,no other people talking or anything. This is on channel 19 so I figured I would hear something.Does anybody have any ideas on what I can do to get my CB working?

Does the coax have 259 connectors on both ends ? I had a neighbor who got the ground and center conductor switched. This is unlikely with a 1.5 swr but I thought I would mention it.
If the radio is used it might have been overloaded with a extremely strong signal . CB radios have a overload protection device, If I remember right it was called a jfet but I could be wrong. Also the spring might be bad, some have a cable in the middle that sometimes break. The coax could also be bad if it is used.

Yes it has the 259 connectors on both ends. The radio, spring, and coax are brand new just came out the box.

I have the whip mounted to the middle of my tool box.The tool box is bolted to the bed so it should ground. If I cant get anything out of that I will mount my whip to the actual bed.

Did someone flip the PA switch when you wasn't looking ? You might check to see if the rf gain is turned fully clock wise. That would cut your receiving range way down .

HAHA no I checked that. That would be something though.

The Cobra 29 has to have the mic installed to get audio, so if you have a bad mic wire, even though it keys up, you may lose the audio. Swap in another mic and try that.
