CB Accessory vs Hardwire
 

For all you CB owners, just wondering which you prefer, to wire your cb to your accessory loop, or hardwire it to your battery.

I am leaning towards installing mine to the accessory power, just in case I forget to turn it off. Can anyone give some details on how they wired theirs, or some suggestions? I was thinking of splicing into the power for my cigarette lighter.

Just wire it straight to the battery, its way less complicated and faster IMO. And its nice to listen to it when the ignitions off. It wont kill your battery, Ive left mine on for 3 days straight and it didnt even put a dent in my battery power

Thanks Matt. Still debating, though. Would just prefer it to automatically turn off once I leave the car.

Wire it to the battery if you actually want good power, performance, and low static.
Otherwise, don't waste your time.

i tapped into the ignition circuit so its only powered when key is on. However you will have to change the channel everytime you turn in on.

seems wiring straight to the battery is the consensus so far. thanks guys

you could wire it to the battery, but use a relay tied in to the ignition or other circuit that goes hot when the ignition is on.

my export uses a bit more current than a barefoot cb, so i am using 8 ga. power cable to the battery, rather than the 16 or 18 ga. wire and lighter plug that comes with most cbs. i have it wired through a relay to the ignition, so it's only on if the ignition is on.

works fine, no ground loops or other noise, and i don't have to worry about leaving the radio on by accident.

straight to the battery. that way you can have it on while at camp and waiting for others to show up.. the draw is low enough you dont have to really worry about it.

This sounds like something I would want to do. Get my power straight from the battery, but use a relay like you said to trigger on/off. How exactly did you wire this? Bummer that some of these cbs dont have remote start leads like audio amps do...

Does anybody have any good suggestions for where to mount the pa speaker? The few places I have considered:

1) On the hood, but under it, not on top. This would be tough to wire though.
2)somewhere under the front bumper.

any help would be appreciated. Pics and how you mounted it would also be a plus.
