Wiring harness problems

Okay so I finally got everything wired up and my deck does work, but.......its very loud and has alot of static. my only guess of the cause was the fact that the wiring harness I got makes me ground all of the deck wires to a single ground, instead of each individual speaker. what do you guys think

p.s. :barf: :barf: im so sick of dealing with this deck :barf: :barf:

What deck did you get? What brand harness did you pick up?

89macrunner Aug 3, 2005 09:31 PM

speakers arent suposed to be grounded by themselves so thats not a possiblity

the internal amp in the deck could be bad

964runner Aug 3, 2005 11:34 PM

by ground i ment negative and its a bestkit(if i remember right) wiring harnes

NisAznMonk Aug 4, 2005 12:19 AM

check to see if you have any exposed wiring anywhere.

Bumpin' Yota Aug 4, 2005 04:58 AM

you mean you bought a wiring harness that converts the speakers to common ground? yuk!

That's most likely your problem, a GOOD harness will have 8 wires for the speaker leads -

white and white trace front left
gray and gray trace front right
green and green trace left rear
purple and purple trace right rear

(trace wires are negative)

Walmart has our harnesses for like 7-8 bux.

BTW what type of deck do you have? Some of the older jensens had common level ground outputs which made wiring a PITA and sound quality suffered...

its a kenwood. Well i guess Ill go spend another 20 bucks and buy a new harness

whats the brand name of a good harness? mine is made by "best kits and harnesses",, the name shouldve told me it was a piece of ˟˟˟˟˟

Go and hit up the "Auto" section of your local Wal-Mart for a wiring harness and be done with it.

964runner Aug 4, 2005 10:09 AM

Astralplane Aug 4, 2005 11:55 AM

Circuit City or even your local auto parts store.

Yeah, what he said.

okay on my lunchbreak i went to a stereo shop and talked to them and showed them my car, he told me the only reason i was getting a "hissing" sound was because im still running the stock amp, he said the best thing to do would be to remove that amp and wire frome the harness that used to plug into it.. so guess what im doin tonight :bang: :bang: :bang:

Bumpin' Yota Aug 4, 2005 05:17 PM

time out time out time out!!!

Do NOT rip out the stock amp there is an EASIER way!

Look behind the radio and you should see two molex plugs plugged into a set of wires identicle to the other side of the plug. Unplug these and the universal toyota harness will fit them. This way you dont have to rewire a thing - yet still bypass the internal amp. Ill try get you a pic or 2 tomorrow when Im at work. Turns a 4hr job into about a 5 minute one.
