Q Forms?
OK, so I'm looking into doing away with my two huge subs and going a lot more stealth. I can't take the boom anymore. I'm not sure I'm confident enough to start cutting into my truck and fiberglassing the storage pocket so I've been looking at this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-d4bu6V7...fo&i=044CT4R87
I think I've heard somewhere that Q-Forms REALLY suck. Why? Why is or isn't this a good choice? |
It is not a really bad choice, it is the easiest, and fastest way to get bass in you truck without compromising floorspace.
I have one it is fairly solid and looks ok, and it sounds pretty decent with a 10w3 in it. The bad parts are the speaker grill does not fit in the box at all, that is a big drawback. You would probably have to glue it on to make it work, and I didn't want to do that at all, and mounting it to the cargo wall takes a few screws that go into the cargo panel itself not great if you don't want to drill through the panel. I have understood the JL stealthbox has better construction, but I didn't like the fact that it has a 10w0 in it, plus the cost for a so-so speaker. I was in the same place as you almost exactly, except that my 2 12's were stolen. I don't know fiberglass well enough to play with this truck (yet). This seemed like a good option, and has been honestly, it does it's job. |
Thanks for the input. My thinking is that the way it mounts is kinda crappy. That panel really isn't all the strong. Do you get a lot of panel rattle from it?
As much as I love my ghetto bass, I can't stand that I have this crappy box in there. Maybe If I can glass one, I'll like them again....... |
No, it doesnt' rattle. The mount is not ideal, but I can say a few screws was far eaiser than ton's of time it takes to glass that area. I don't the time to spend on just a sub box like that, I have too many other projects I want to get done.
Don't expect the same sound as 2 12's, the difference from that to 1 10' is night and day. It still sounds good, but def not boomy, and it more so for fill than overpowering all the other sound, not nearly as loud. I would never go back though, having that space is crucial to me. I can't justify having an suv that nothing can fit in. If you have the time glass it, I think with the right 10's you could possilby get 2 in there if you fill out the space to near the wheel well like the Q-logic box does using the space behind the cargo panel out to near flush with the inside wall of the wheell well. Everyone I've seen do it so far has just flushed the speaker with the cargo wall. If you expand that out say 4-6" you could gain enough space to have another 1 cu/ft of air and maybe another 10'. If I ever do get the time I'm going to try to do it that way, I think it can be done. 2 10's with little or no cargo space used. |
