Ok so the other day i killed one of my kicker 10s i must admit i was pretty bummed. but then i got what im gonna replace my two kickers with.
its a rockford fosgate power series T2 10in with 2 ohm dual voice coils.
hook this bad boy up to my hifonics at 1 ohm will be gettng 1200 rms.
im pretty excited, just gotta build a box for it. oh and this one sub weighs like 40 lbs

You are a lucky man !!
That thing looks huge though

the_ocho 12-27-2008 04:42 PM

yea i got it for 200 bucks they are like 350 on ebay. the box im building is going to be 20.5"x15.5"x12.5" with a 4"x11" port. the guy had 3 of them in the trunk of his honda with 4000 watts to them. idk how he could still hear

:lof:
hhah, thats rediculous !

the_ocho 12-27-2008 05:52 PM

yea but then again the guy who i bough my yota from had a 15 in there that you could hear from 2 blocks away.

i have noticed. not many people on this forum are into car audio. i mean there are like 10 threads total in the audio section. i know the day i got my yota i had more money invested in the stereo than i paid for the truck.

I hear ya. I even went to school to install mobile electronics. Wish I could spend the money add redo my system, but I have other things to buy($6000 DH race bike). Good luck with your new subs, hope the sound good. BTW, make sure your system can handle down to 1 ohm, not many subs and amps can handle that. Most amps will shut down, but if you have a older amp it won't shut down and most likely fry the sub or amp. Just some food for thought

Hah, I love my audio :)
You can almost here me from 2 blocks away...

That's because most of us spend our money on mods for offroad rather than a stereo. If it's not a dd.

I put in some decent phillips 6" speakers in a crappy walmart box, with a 10" sub in a different box next to that on the xtra cab bench in my dd. No amp, just a decent head unit to power them. I just need the sub for when it gets loud, no boom boom system, I just don't get that.
The 4runner just got brand new 4" two way speakers in the dash, and some (given to me) 6" sony xplods crammed into another walmart box, wired for easy removal. I didn't know yt had a section for audio until they moved my cb thread.

Basically I like a decent setup that gets pretty loud, but nothing I would spend any kind of money on. If it's your dd I can see a little more money going to the audio dept of the truck, but most of my money goes into repairs and offroad mods.

the_ocho 12-28-2008 06:05 PM

my amp puts 1200 rms at 1ohm might drop in my 2000 rms @1ohm in tho... im gonna pull the 4gauge power wire i have in there now and run 1/0 to the cap and 4gauge from the cap to amp and 4gauge ground for the amp and 1/0 ground for the cap. when i got the truck i had to start from scrach. and by that i mean i even had to run the B+ to power the head unit.

:dj:

i just installed two 12" comps in my brothers golf. wired at 2ohm with 700 rms to them

Im not into the whole hear me coming thing. i just love a system with clean notes. i wanna feel my bass and hear my highs. like its supposed to be.. the ability to make the car next to me feel my bass is just a plus

so i was on the rockford site looking at their subs. and apparently this sub it the absolute top of the line that rockford is currently making. i feel special. iv never had the best of anything before

i cant fit a truck box behind my seat, i'm too tall. i may stick one 10 behind behind the passenger seat when i get buckets

scuba 12-28-2008 07:24 PM

Trust me it barely fits...

:dj:

sa51 12-28-2008 07:27 PM

i can tell, i measured what space i had and it looked like it woulda shoved me too far forward. where did u get that box from? what are its measurements

scuba 12-28-2008 07:30 PM

ummm, The home town audio store...
No clue on measurements...

:dj:

the_ocho 12-28-2008 07:32 PM

is it a common chamber or are the subs separate? i know my kickers were in a common chamber and when one went i took the other with it

scuba 12-28-2008 08:13 PM

Thats a good question, I never took a good peak inside to see...
Im so lazy right now...

:dj:

sa51 12-28-2008 08:17 PM

put down the pipe and investigate :P

j/k ;)

the_ocho 12-28-2008 08:22 PM

haha why pull a speaker if you dont have to. on a kicker thats like what 8 screws

sa51 12-28-2008 08:23 PM

yeah i wouldnt get up and check that either lol, i may go out for some beer here in a few though.

the_ocho 12-28-2008 08:28 PM

oh thats much better than pulling a speaker.

sa51 12-28-2008 08:31 PM

lol i dont have a speaker to pull

Yea wiring is kind of time consuming. I rewired my whole truck(audio wise) and I kinda sucked. At school we rewired(almost the whole car) a 2002 Audi A4, wow what a nightmare!

the_ocho 12-30-2008 03:04 PM

well after hours of talking with rockford fosgate and cruntching numbers and drawing things up i got my box done yesterday. still gotta paint and finish it. but the construction is done. sounds amazing this one 10 is louder and hits harder than two kicker comp 12"s
just finished putting it together

In the truck next to the cap and amp

NICE !!! Again, Im jealous...

the_ocho 12-30-2008 03:23 PM

i found out that new these speakers retailed at around $700 from rockford. wow. that makes this sub the most expensive thing i own besides the runner.
and it sounds so good. just gos to show you get what you pay for

drpdmazda 01-01-2009 10:40 AM

are you going to trim that port down so it is flush with the box? just curious, if not what is the reason?

jason

bigt 01-01-2009 10:50 AM

scuba i had 2 of the 12 inch cvr which are the next step up in my 4runner and then in my hilux..
people could feel my bass!
but i like having the room in my truck and i mostly listen to talk radio "howard and bubba"
so i got rid of them..
but kicker stuff rocks! bet it sounds great!

the port will be flush apon final Assembly. im currently running a 11" long 4" round port. i didn't glue it in right away in case i wanted to switch the port out for a different length(changes the Hz that the box puts out most spl and the sub runs most efficient at). since it wasnt glued in if i pushed it flush with the top of the box it only had 3/4" of friction holding it is and it would vibrate loose and fall into the box with hard base notes.

Im also trying to think of a way the i can hold the port in without glue and wont displace any internal space so that i could switch the ports out easily

can you glue some sort of flair to the top of it that allows it to rest in the hole but also allows it to be pulled out easily? also why would you want to change out the ports? you should build the box and the port based on your desired hz level tuning the box with the port
