I searched but didn't find all I was looking for. I got a new Pioneer headunit and went to install it with wiring harness. However it seemed I got the wrong harness and I got more questions. Btw, I got a Pioneer DEH2200.

Is there a pioneer to Toyota harness so I don't need to splice wires between the harness supplied by Pioneer and the metra 70-1761 toyota harness I got? Anyone got a catalogue number if such a harness exist?

Do I plug this headunit into the old amp or bypass it?

Do I need any extra cables/adaptors for the antenna to work?

do u have a system with amps? if so u need to look for them and use the plug there i believe... did u get a stereo installation harness? there is another thread about this if u look around. check that one out.

in the 99+ 4runners you need to find the oe amp usualy under the stock deck and disconnect the oe amp and use the harness going into the oe amp you can leave the old amp in there but you no longer need it i took mine out. and it should me smooth sailing from there! i had the same problem it took me a couple days to figure it out

 

Thanks. Yes I got the oe amp in there. Is there wiring harness that will fit the headunit directly to the amp out (to speakers). I got the harness that was supplied from pioneer but it requires splicing it to the metra harness. No plug and play

yeah you do have to splice the wires you have to get a harness for your truck and one that comes with your head unit splice those together and it should work just fine

 

Yes you will need to construct your own harness you should have a pigtail that plugs into the Toyota Harness also a pigtail that plugs into the new stereo .
** Pigtail is a plug on one end a wires on the other

In your instructions you should have the color codes for both sides Interfacing it all so it works.

**It is possible you did get incorrect parts so make sure before making any soldered or crimped connections

 

I have an avic d3, I had to splice the d3's harness with the one from the kit that plugs into the Toyota. As easy as matching colors.
On a side note, I had to ditch the stock ground and ground the head unit to the chassis to clear up ground noise/alternator noise. Hope that helps with future head aches.

This might not matter to you, but anybody installing amps it might;
I'm running after market amps for my subs and speakers (alpine pdx amps), I had to ground ALL of my rca's to the chassis to clear up noise as well.
Yes, I have the loudest 4runner in my county. ;]

 

this is what i used same plug my 91 4runner has and my friends 03 tundra all u doo is match the wires from ur new hu and its plug and play after you remove the factory amp

Thanks guys. I thought a harness with pioneer plug in one end and Toyota in the other existed (I wanted to remove my own inability to make a connection that would eventually fall apart)

Now do I need any thing extra to make the radio antenna connect and work properly?

 

If your head unit supports it, it should work when you switch media source to am/fm.
The wire for it is in that harness, it should be plug and play after you make the connections.

Ok. Took out the old stereo. Removed the amp and plugged in my harness. Attached the new receiver and it worked fine. However, when driving I noticed I had lost all the dash lighting! Is there an autodimming feature I messed up when I connected two orange wires in the toyota harness? Also, antenna stays up when the receiver is on, but that is a minor issue

 

ya some hu have a power antenna wire but if it just has a remote then the antenna will just go up or down iwith cd and radio

 

OK. I can live with that.
How about the dash light problem? What are the orange wires for on the wiring harness?
I cut the orange wires and even tried taking the harness off, but I still got no dash light. Night driving is interesting

 

update. Blew a 10A fuse controlling dash, parking and rear lights.

 

if i remember correctly the model pioneer you have only has one blue wire in the back correct? if thats the case it will keep your antenna powered up at all times. you could put a toggle switch in line with it if it starts to bother you. as for the orange illumination wires, i dont think your model pioneer has dimming features or a dimmer wire on it does it? if it doesnt and you hooked up the two orange wires on the 4runner side of the harness, that is why you blew the fuse. i usually only hook up the dimmer wire when installing a larger double din unit that gets annoying at night when it is so bright, hope that helps some

 

thx. For now I can live with having the antenna up when the stereo is on. I guess the orange wires blew the fuse. The unit isn't that bright that it needs dimming. Much better sound though, but now I feel like adding a sub
