MP3 Player for 2001 4Runner...
 

According to Crutchfield.com, these two are ones that 'fit my vehicle' - just wondering if anyone happened to have any of these.

I cant afford to spend a ton, maybe looking at 200 tops for one:

There are plenty of MP3 playing HU out there that will fit. I'm not sure why Crutchfield is limiting you to just these two. I have lots of Sony electronics but I have never cared for their car stereos. The buttons never make sence to me, at least this one looks ok. My suggestion is take a MP3 disk to your local electronics store. How the player displays artist and track info made my decision real easy.

I have a 2002 and there are alot more that fit in Crutchfield. I bought a Kenwood and I am extremely happy with it. I also had a 1999 and the mountings are the same as my 2002. So I think you will have no issues with installing as long as you get the wiring kits.

get whatever part number or model number you need and use FROOGLE to get it cheaper elsewhere.

Well crutchfield is wrong.

Pio DEHP4700MP, DEHP6700MP, DEHP7700MP, and DEHP80MP all play mp3/wma's.

Of those two, I'd go with pioneer. (Where is the Calvin peeing on sony smiley?)

If you want iPod integration or satellite radio instead, the pio dehp3700 will work, however the 3700 will not read mp3/wma data disks.

I only posted those two because they were the two models I was considering, sorry for any confusion...

id definitely go with whatever else is up against sony.

I have the Pioneer DEHP80MP and love it, its awesome! There are very few HU's that will NOT fit, thats why they have the kits that make them fit to each vehicle. Any single DIN HU will fit, and Pioneer is definitely one of the best.

actually I have yet to meet a radio that wont fit in our dashes...hehehe :D

I have to admit that I am somewhat leaning more towards to Sony, only because Ive never had a problem with any Sony product I ever bought.

I'd definitely go with Pioneer, and I'd definitely buy it on eBay. You can save more $$ that way, or get a higher model. Definitely. :)

Sony is not bad at all, they just have some serious performance issues when it comes to comparing with other car audio. Pioneer has some awesome decks, very user friendly and always match the competition as far as whats offered for a graet price. I have never had problems with any pioneer decks.

I am currently also running the DEH-80mp (pioneers new flagship bad boy) and it rules. There isn't anything to compare to it for the price ($300); however it is out of your range. I would definetly stick with the Pioneer in this case and like everyone said, buy from somewhere else NOT crutchfield.

I have the Pioneer (top one in pic) and I love it. I got mine from Best Buy on sale (around $150 I think) plus free installation. They had no problem getting it into my 2000 Runner. Took them about 20-30 minutes. I got the Pioneer because it is both Serius AND XM Radio ready...you can use either service through this baby! :great:

I also have a 2000, and am debating b/w Pioneer and Kenwood head units. Did you compare Kenwood? Also, would you mind giving me some details on your system - I have searched many forums and haven't been able to get a whole lot of info. Particularly, which speakers did you get, w/ or w/o amp, and I can't seem to find out if rear door speakers are 5 1/4" or 4", I have heard different opinions on this.

If you have a 00' you prolly have 5.25... best way to find is is to look :) Takes about 2 mins to get the door panel off risk free.

Kenwood also makes very good, reliable, user friendly, technologically advanced decks IMO; however buck for buck I think that Pioneer has them beat. But Kenwodd is very nice IMO.

Regardless of speaker size you can fit 5.25" in the rear pretty easily by modding the factory speaker plate (assuming you have 4") like I did. I have the DEH-80 pioneer (60w x 4) with some infiniti kappas up front and then some blaupunkts in the back (5.25") and then a 8" sub mounted behind the rear cargo panel getting 150w rms.

I did a little research, but not much. What sold me on the Pioneer was the fact that is was relatively cheap compared to other models and that it is compatable with both Satillite Radio systems...whenever I get Satillite Radio that is.

As for speakers and amps, I hate to tell you this, but all I have is stock speakers and no amp. As far as I am concerned the stock speakers are plenty loud enough. I may listen to the occasional Static X, but I don't want my ears to bleed afterward! :banger:

Get the pioneer. I was considering it for my truck. It has a lot to offer and its at a good price but if you want it cheaper google it or froogle it doesnt matter either way. I would also take a look at www.onlinecarstereo.com I stumbled across this web site a few months back and I am considering buying all new speakers all around from here.

I finally upgraded the worn out AM/FM/Cassette in my '85 with a JVC AR800 head unit and that is hooked up to my old 12-disc JVC changer (I can finally lose the old RF adapter and wired remote - woo hoo!). Anyway, quite impressed with the head unit, does MP3 and WMA on the internal CD, plus runs the changer, 4x50 watts, wireless remote and removeable face plate. Also has subwoofer outputs and controls if I ever decide I need that. I mainly wanted to stick w/ JVC because I had the changer and wanted to be able to operate it.
