Midbass drivers better in KICKS? or DOORS?

I've always mounted Midbass drivers on the doors with lots of deadening..this 95 T4R does not have any speaker mounts on the doors and I'm not too sure about cutting up the door panels.

Can any of you (BUMPIN YOTA?) who installed kicks share your "MIDBASS" response on the kicks? Is it as good/better than door mounted (IB) speakers?

These will be 6.75" drivers from CDT Audio...If I wanted a 3 way set-up with 4" mids on the kicks, I guess the only place to put MIDbasses are the doors correct?

Thanks
Mike

carsonics,

welcome to the forum :D and please dont call your 4runner a T4R. thats something the other board calls their 4runners :D

while i dont have a 2nd gen, i did use CDT components in my 3rd gen. take a look in the tech section and in the electronics forum. you will see my very extensive writeup on this subject. i used q-logic kick panels which simplifies the solution for you. i am sure you've heard of these, but if you have not, basically these kick panels house both your mid and tweeters in the same location and point them towards you. they are easy to install, they won't break the bank, and have a oem look to it.

Bob-

Thanks.

I did go through your extensive and very informative write-up..awesome job by the way.

Also I'm slowly learning about the Lingo for this vehicle and I apologize for the newb "T4R" indicator..From now on, I will refer to her and will name her, "GT-R" as in Green Toyota Runner. :)

I'm a Rookie++ IASCA SQ competitor so I am somewhat familiar with some car audio in general, but never done a 4Runner before....

Thanks
Mike

Cut the doors up and fit these in, then slap the others in the kicks.

Too bad you weren't around about 2 months ago, I just had some CDT components that were brand new for sale. I wound up selling them on eBay for $475 (what I paid), but had them listed here for $425. Same model as these.

Thanks for the link and offer..I'm actually a CDT Rep/Dealer..CDT Used my car as DEMO for CES early this year, so I'm pretty set when it comes to CDT stuff.

on my 90 T4R, i've had my MB quarts 218s since 1994/95... cant remember now when i had them installed... in the doors.

single tweets by the door handle release. the 6.5" mid bass by the lower, leading front edge of the door, mounted on MDF baffles...

before they got cheap and popular, i could never really dial in the center stage without DIGITAL DELAY.

back in the mid to late 90s when i competed in a few IASCA events, the IN THING was the kick panel setups. that way, you can get the signal path of the sound from the speaker to the ears to be close to equal from left to right.

and i was about 6 months away from fully commiting to building up the front stage (this silly thing called 4 wheeling got in the way for time and $$$... lol).

then during an competition, i learned that the new rules said that one portion of judging is now done with a single judge (as opposed to 2 judges, in the front seats) so that made digital delay a very great option for me...

and then, sony's XDP-210 dig proc finally was "old" enough that in their retail OUTLET stores, they were going for around $130 each... as opposed to $500+ when new just a couple years ago.

so i bought one and man... dialed in, my center stage is close to PERFECTION. of course from the driver's seat is where it's set... who cares for the passengers....

so i never really thought about kick panels ever again...
