LCD TV shopping

Looking for a 32" for the bedroom, which brand have the best picture for their top of the line model for under $1k?

BajaRunner 08-02-2008 05:23 PM

Samsung! :)

Corey 08-02-2008 05:29 PM

I too will be in the market later for a 1080P LCD.

Not sure about the size.
My current Toshiba regular TV is 27".
Prior to that I had a Panasonic 27".

Will get from a 32" to a 42" when I am ready.
So many brands out there...

Sharp Aquos!!!

I know some folks will laugh at me for saying this.

I bought a 37" vizio. Great picture. Hooked it up to the HD DirectV box and it was awesome!!! And Cheap!! No problems with it.

24Runna 08-03-2008 08:07 AM

Vizio isn't that bad at all. I help run a computer shop, and we have a 42" Vizio in the lobby area as a HTPC monitor, It gives a pretty good picture for the price.

Is this it?

PS, just noticed they make several 37" ones.
Depends on the options you want.

Just keep in mind that that isn't 1080i.

The Sharp 32" Aquos LCD HDTV
Model #: SHA LC32D62U is 1080i

And is on sale for $849.99.

OH and BTW, when getting cables, DON'T buy Monster cable! OR get a wall mount from a store.

Head over to monoprice.com, Cheap cables, but high quality. And same with everything else they have.

Corey 08-03-2008 08:29 AM

Which is better 1080i or 1080p?
I thought the above were 1080i?

Supports Video Signals(1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i

A month ago I purchased a 42" plasma Samsung PN-42850 for $1000 from circuit city, now the bastards have it for $700 - it's 720P but looks amazing (1,000,000-1 contrast ratio)
My friend at the same time purchased the 37" Vizio LCD and the picture does not begin to compare to the Samsung.

I first bought a 42" LG 1080i at best buy and it stopped working on days 2. Returned that and got a 32" sharp 720p at circuit city for only $625 out the door. The LG had a much better picture but it was over $1000.... It only used in the bedroom so the 720p wasn't a big deal.....

What the heck ya got in the living room then, an 80" :D

I think for me, the 37" would be a good choice since I sit about nine feet back from the TV set.

EWAYota 08-03-2008 10:02 AM

We've been browsing for a new flat panel in the 47-52" range and for the money, Vizio looks to be what we'll be getting. Buddy has a 47" and it's got great picture quality for my standards. I've seen the Vizio's side by side with the Sony's and Samsung's, and while they don't look on par side by side, alone it looks great.

Plus, Costco sells Vizio, and at times, its hard to beat Costco's return policy and warranty.

From what I've read, getting the TV tuned properly is what makes all the differance.

When ever I'm in Best Buy, I always find myself staring at the Sonys. They look incredible. I wouldn't go less than 1080. I've seen those Vizios in Walmart and they look like crap next to the other tv's they sell there.

EWAYota 08-03-2008 12:35 PM

From what I've seen at walmart compared to costco, walmart sells the lower end Vizio line. Walmart is carrying the middle end and you can purchase Vizio's upper end from Vizio's website (Don't know anyone local selling the top line Vizios). For the price-size, Vizio's are hard to beat and when the picture is tuned in, its a sharp set.

Sharps and Samsungs are going to be a nicer set, but for the $$$$, and set up by themselves, I like the Vizio.

I'm also one of those guys who can't see the lag in response time when another guy is complaining that the 6ms response time is too slow. I can't see the blurring of images either. I think my current picture looks decent till I go to someone elses and notice my color is really off, hehehe.

I meant don't get one from the store.

The wall mounts from monoprice are great quality and a lot less $$$.

BTW, Monster Cables do suck.
