im having trouble with stereo installation wires dont match

so i got a stereo today, i did my research couldn't really find a good wiring diagram and every web sight i look at the wire colors do not match my truck and they have a lot more wires then i do... can anyone help me out with maybe a wiring diagram or maybe some incite on what wires mean what. also i don't have a diagram of the fuse box but one 7.5 amp fuse is blown under the hood... im thinking thats the stereo fuse. i can use any help i can get! i would love to avoid taking it to a stereo shop! thanks!

first step, do you have a multimeter? if no, go get one, if yes continue on.
ground is easy, screw the ground wire into any metal surface close to the radio. (shiny metal bracket that holds the radio, transmission tunnel etc) next, use your meter to find the 12 volt constant, and the 12 volt ignition wires. i believe the cig lighter is switched power (12 volt ignition) so you could always tap onto that wire harness which should be right above the radio. once youve found the 12 volt pos, the 12 volt ign, and your ground, you can find your speaker wires. I would assume your truck only has two 4" speakers in the dash? 2 ways to test speaker wires: 1) remove the speakers and see what colors are what terminal 2) "pop" the wires with a 9 volt battery, only issue with that is polarity. good luck J |
