Basic Amp Wiring Question
 

I have installed half a dozen amp/sub setups and have always wondered
is it better to run longer RCAs to the amp and have the amp next to the sub -or- mount the amp under my seat and run longer speaker wires to the sub.

I assume there will be less signal loss with the longer RCA and probably less interference (since they are shielded). But how does that compare with the cost? I know I am a cheap b@stard. That is not the question here ;) Long RCAs and thick power wire are considerably more expensive.

Hit me with your thoughts y'all.

speaker wire is definetly cheaper and, i dont thing you will see noticable difference either way you wire it

I Think longer speaker wire is better then RCA's
The RCA's carry the nice clean signal and the longer they are; the more chances to pick up static!! and its never good to go cheap on your RCA wires!!
but really you will never really hear the difference!!

In all my experience the shorter the RCA's the less distortion you will hear

Speaker wire is running a much higher wattage than RCA's.

RCA's run at 2-5volts, making the signal vulnerable to picking up interference from other electrical wires/devices. Plus your amplifier of course amplifies the interference that was picked up by the input wires. The speaker wires are beyond that and pick up little or no interference. So shorter the RCA's the less likely you will pickup any problems. :)
