audio and coil help

I've got a '94 Runner and am thinking about replacing my factory speakers. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thinking about amping them up too, if you have any suggestions.

And one more question. Anyone know of a place around Johnson City/Kingsport/Bristol or Knoxville TN that sells and installs Downey springs at a reasonable price.

Thanks alot guys.

If you're gonna do new speakers, definetely put an amp on them. It will be pointless to upgrade speakers without an amp. I would look into JL, Polk, MB Quart or other quality stuff. I would stay away from Best Buy and Circuit City type stuff because you normally get what you pay for in a store like that. When you put an amp those speakers you will be amazed at how much better it will sound and how much louder you can turn them up without distortion. Good luck and welcome aboard:bigok:

What kind of system are you running Jonathan?

Jonathan Dec 24, 2003 04:04 PM

Right now I'm running pretty mcuh all JL equipment. I have JL 6.5" components in front and 5.25" in the back. I have a JL 500/1 amp on my JL 12 W3v2 sub and a Bostwick 2100xa amp on my mids and highs. My setup is kinda pricey but you can go with some cheaper stuff that will sound just fine. I used to work at an audio shop and have fallen in love with JL equipment. It can be pricey but for me it's well worth the quality and reliabilty.

The best out there. I cant stand it when people try to tell me that Fosgate or others even compare with JL.

Jonathan Dec 24, 2003 04:18 PM

I've dealt with Fosgate and this is my take on there crap. If you're 16 and just got handed the keys to your 1993 Chevy cavalier they will probably be everything you want out of a speaker : loud and obnoxious. As for sound quality, I could fart in a can and make a better sound. Fosgate stuff is cheap and for the money difference i would much rather go with something of a higher quality, whether it be JL or not.

Do you think it would be worth the money to get the XR series rather than the VR?

I am running all MB Quart and Eclipse and Zapco :)

For the sub box pictures I havent updated it yet.. I have some pictures online...

I am doing around 154db or so..

Zapco is a really strong amp. A friend of mine bought one of the older series one of those for like 75 bucks a few years ago and he still has it pushin 2 twelves and that thing kicks. I like your stetup Greg, that's real sharp. I'll have to post pics of mine soon, just haven't had time.

what about kicker, thats what im thinkin about gettin for my 4Runner

Breezey Dec 24, 2003 10:10 PM

Kicker is a good amp.. i used one for a while... I would only use a kicker amp to power a sub box....

But if you have money, get a Eclipse or Zapco :)

yotafool Dec 24, 2003 10:41 PM

what about kicker for speakers and subs, their resolution line for speakers?

Breezey Dec 24, 2003 11:06 PM

they are ok, my Friend has the VR ones... I am useing Pioneer Permier for mine and they are not too bad... I got a real good deal on group buy..

yotafool Dec 24, 2003 11:19 PM

ya, im just thinking about getting some 6.5" kicker resolution components and maybe a pair of kicker 6x9"s, i was thinking about the 12" solobaric l7's but ive heard they lack a lot of SQ so i dunno what im gonna go with for my bass.
