Anyone done an alarm install in a 1st gen 4Runner?
I just installed an alarm in mine and it does not work. I'm curious about the constant and ignition power sources and where to tap in. I tapped my constant into the line leading to the engine copmpartment fuse block and the ignition source (ign. column in front of the connector) should be right, it was verified with a multimeter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

constant should be from the batt, fused of course.
IGN can be from the radio wiring harness. |

Does that make any sense? I wire tapped the whole job and none took. Wish I had a pic for you. |
It doesn't really make sense. I'll fool around with it some more this weekend and run the wire direct from the battery.

Here's your alarm connection information:
1987-88 Toyota 4-Runner Security Information Constant 12V+ White Ignition Switch Harness Starter Black/White Ignition Switch Harness Ignition Black/Yellow Ignition Switch Harness Ignition 2 Black/Yellow Ignition Switch Harness Accessory Blue/Red Ignition Switch Harness Tach Black Coil or Black/White at Check Connector, marked IG Brake Switch Green/White Brake Switch Trunk Pin Green/Red (-) Driver's Kick Panel Parking Lights Green Driver's Kick Panel or Fuse Panel Head Lamp Red/White (-) Steering Column Hood Pin n/a Factory Disarm n/a Door Trigger Black (-) Top of Fuse Panel 2 Pin Connector Door Lock Brown/White (-) Door Control Relay behind left Front Speaker Door Unlock Pink/White (-) Horn Wire Green/Red (-) Steering Column, use Relay |
Can I wire the constant off the harness or should that be run direct to the battery? Any idea where the parking lights run out of.
Thanks for all the info, its very helpful. |
Yes, run it off the ignition switch harness.

Sweet, thanks man!
