93 4runner full new audio setup ?'s
Im going to replace my whole audio system in the truck and need some opinions on some things...
I think i have decided on the Alpine 9883 head unit to begin with, seems like a good all around HU.
I was gonna go with factory size 4" in front and 5 1/4" Infinity Reference Series Speakers, and maybe just leave the tweeters that are on the back ceiling alone since the new Infinitys are two ways.
And for sub and amp i don't really know which way to go. I looked at doing either a smaller Alpine amp with one 12" Infinity Sub, or going with a smaller JL Audio (A2150) amp and one 10" JL Audio (10w1v24) Sub.
These would all add up to be in my price range, i don't really want to go much over $1000. Would this be a pretty nice sound system or should i take some other directions?
As far as amps and subs would i be better going with a 10" or 12" sub?
Alpine or JL for amp? Infinity or JL for sub??
And also which would be a better place to have everything installed, Ultimate Electronics or Car Toys??
I like both places could use some opinions though, opinions on everything.
I'll post this thread up on t4r.org too if you wanna talk over there.
Thanks everybody

Install it all yourself its really not to hard and you will save a lot of money.
As for subs if you listen to rock or metal 10s are great for that but if your a basshead 12's or 15's is the way to go.
I did my 90 4runner over and heres what I used
[
5.25 components in front doors tweeter installed on a piller the mid placed in a pod I found on e-bay 1 set 5.25 and 1 set 6.25 pods $50 and crossovers mounted under b piller covers behind seatbelt above retracter
6.25 components rear doors crossovers mounted inside door panels between doorskin and panels
10's installed in rear cargo storage spaces lined with 3/4 mdf and a front 3/4 mdf 12x12 face to mount speakers
1000 watt cap installed on the right rear bench seat on the side
xs 6600 6 channel Phoenix Gold amp with 4 3 inch fans under passenger seat
I did it all myself and it took about a day because I had to figure it out as I went along. I also installed a Rockford Fosgate head unit at the same time The hardest part of it all was cutting the door panels to fit the pods because they were still like perfect. But if you got the time you can do it yourself this is the first time I ever did this kind of work and it turned out real good if I do say so myself. The sound is great and I still have an extra amp because I bought two of the same amp with the original idea of using one per side till I learned the bass is only in mono even though the music I listen to has lots of double bass. If your interested in a great amp let me know

This is what I did for under $1,000.
You could save more by not buying the sub box - $150.00
and buying MFD board to build your own - $20
and buying Pyle 10" subs to install in it - $80
It would have cost me $933 if I went that route, but I already had Pyle subs so I just bought the box for time constraints. I should've bought the wood for $20 and did it myself.

Anyway, I got everything from Crutchfield since they are right here in town where I am. Make sure you ground everything properly and make sure you use well shielded speaker wire when you do this (if you do). I cheap speaker wire will allow interference to cross over into the speaker connections and you will have engine noise.
