Corey, a suggestion: "The 86-95 Trucks & 4Runners FAQ/Tech Thread"

Can we just get all 15 of the sticky's in here posted into the FAQ thread instead? Just a thought here, unless everyone who has a laptop likes having to scroll down a half page every time we open this page.

I'm not trying to be critical, mean, or a troll here. Having it looking like this right now just really makes this part of the forum look really cluttered up and lacking direction as far as tech. Combine them all back into the FAQ thread under the first post(s)?

80+ views and only 1 reply?? Must be we're the only one's who care about it looking nicer here?

Corey 10-10-2011 03:44 PM

First I have seen this thread.
Will discuss this with staff.

I think it is best the way it is. This way you can search for it easier and pick the topic you need without searching through a whole thread. Many websites do this but in the long run it makes it confusing when answering any questions or adding to the information. Making a sub-forum for sticky's would work and clean it up a bit.

I like the idea of a sub forum too for a majority of them.
No sub forums in there though for different years, it would be one big dumping ground.

If you click "new posts" or "today's posts" it's not an issue and scrolling a half page is easy even on an iPhone.

This is what I do 90% of the time. Or use the search feature to find what your looking for.

Corey 10-11-2011 05:10 AM

The only way I surf is the new posts feature.
I have not gone into an individual forum in eons.

dropzone 10-11-2011 11:10 AM

Take a look at this, let me know what you think.
Consolidated Sticky LinkI have not unstuck any of the existing ones, but consolidated them into one.

If people feel it is nice, I will unstick the sticky's...

Fink 10-11-2011 11:27 AM

I think it's fine the way it is. We all know people aren't going to look in the consolidated section first. At least with things the way they are now, it's constantly plastered in front of their faces. This goes more for newbies than anything.

I use the New Post/Today's Posts and Search feature to find stuff I'm looking for and I've done so since even before I was a Mod.

However, this is just my $.02; it's up to the members in the end.

I kind of like it, it sure does clean the top of each page if they are in just one sticky thread.
Easy to add future threads to it also.

Good job Robb.

ocdropzone, I like the consolidated thread there, exactly what I was thinking. Thanks! As for the iPhone deal using "most recent", I never thought of that, nice trick. :D I'll have to try it with my macbook later on. *Edit, just tried it, https://www.yotatech.com/search.php?searchid=8921265 is there a way to further filter it as a specific forum section like say Swaps, Early Truck/4Runner, 86-95 Trucks & 4Runners, etc-etc??

As to the whole newbie needing the tech plastered in front of them, that's sort of kindergarten grade-school logic there. I know in a way it might keep the dupe "Ummm, I have problem-X" threads from appearing, but I (think) people are two things,

1. Lazy/Naive

2. Forgetful they were once a newbie too.

People ultimately are lazy, on both ends. The newbie's don't read the whole forum joining form and just click the "OK, sign me Up!" box and the mods get tired of having to tell newbie's, "Did you check the FAQ's yet?!".

So, in that line of thought (and in no way am I saying the mods here are like this, but they certainly are on other online forums) make the sign up sheet with multiple check boxes, like you doctor's office has, one box every two or three paragraphs. :lof:

YT Staff, I'm sorry if I posted the topic in the wrong place originally and thanks for considering it.

:king: K.C.

I'll leave everything the way it is for now, consolidated sticky and the regular stickies for a few days to see if we get any more feedback. Depending on that I can do unsticky the majority of them and do a consolidated version in most folders.
I think Newbie tech should stay as is though..
