Tuned Port Corvette, Supercharger Into 3rd Gen With Emissions? Cebby Inspired Me

Ok...get ready to Cringe and yell at me

Lets say I was able to get a TPI 350 Chevy to run as clean as a 3.4 Liter....or as clean as one of those Lexus 4.0 Liter that Cebby is installing

Maybe swap in a late model GM 5 speed and transfer case from an S-10 Z-R2 Blazer that had a 4.3 Liter (so that it bolts up to the TPI small block, the 4.3 V6 and Chevy V8 has the same bolt pattern etc.)

I have thought about this alot, too much, and the firewall might need some notching but maybe in the spring when I buy my FJ Cruiser and my Camaro is done...I will rip the drivetrain out of the 4 Runner and swap in a nice small block

I know many of you are cringing...but this may happen, most importantly for me will be to make sure it is clean running, not pumping all types of junk into the atmosephers, also would run the original AC, gauges etc

I guess pick up a tranny from a 95 Runner makes sense then get this adapter set up... http://www.advanceadapters.com/catalog/057.html

Depends on where you live, but engine swap must be same or later year as truck to be "legal."

BOSTON4RUNNER 07-15-2005 11:42 AM

not too concerned about that in mass...shouldnt be a problem

my truck doesnt even get the sniffer here,,,,due to it being 4 wheel drive

the dynos they have require them to be driven on a machine

all the all wheel and 4 wheel drive vehicles,,,are not tested

is your 3.4 having issues???

Well, I think that if you are really intrested in doing a swap like that you ought to be reading either pirate4x4.com and maybe the marlincrawler.com BB. More Yota owners on those boards tend to do swaps so the info you get there could be more useful. Still from what I have seen it's only been on early trucks and 4Runners, ie. before the 3.4 since most find the 3.4 acceptable if not exciting.

A nice swap is totally possible. It simply needs plenty of time, lots of effort, a good deal of cash, and a person who can do it well. For a TPI 350 you are thinking of a 85-91 but I would imagine all the LT1 and LS1 are cleaner in emissions terms as would be your 97. If given the chance I'd stay away from the LT1 with the optispark, seems like they are are a hassle not worth starting with. This leaves you with the LS1 which is more costly but prob not by too much since there were many in the late F-bodys.

What type of use would you want a swapped 4Runner for? Depending on that could dictate what other upgrades you would need for the axles and such.

if i was to ever do a chevy swap it would be a LS1

if you were near me, my roommate could do an ls1 swap for you. He puts them in everything.

yeah LSI may be likely, thankfully I am able to do it myself no problem...I have built some silly machines..

LS1 W/ TH350 or TH400 and Gear Vendors overdrive unit....
