tube bumpers and tube prices (2005)
well i just picked up 24 feet of 1.75" 11 gague for $52. at least it's cheaper than buying a tube bumper... lets hope that my math skills will help me out as this is my first tube bending project. i guess that's right around $2.15 a foot. anyway if anyone has pictures of their rear tube bumper i'd love to have an arsenal of pictures before i start this project. after the bumper is finished i plan on making my tailgate into a swingout tire carrier... this sounds like a pretty origional idea so i'll post a ton of pictures in a buildup thread whenever i get started.

also i need a good latch to hold the swingout tailgate- if anyone has any suggestions i'd appreciate them. fabrication starts sunday!!

Scott doesn't make it anymore?
I got mine from Rocky Mountain Fab...but they went out of business already.. the thing about a swingout tire carrier is it's gotta be tight. You'll get a lot of vibration back there. With 35's it's a lot of shaking going on. The one I got has a pin that drops in to a hole then I put another latch to keep it from bouncing up/down. I don't have a good pic of it though ...sorry. |
hinges and latches...
i am out of colorado and can hook you up with some hinges and latches that i use when i fab bumpers for my company....pm me for pricing

I have a couple of the spindle and hub hinges in stock they sell for $65 shipped, I always use a big wing nut made out of a bolt and flat strap for the latch........it's not as handy as some, but way more solid than all.
